Mum went loopy once she found out.

⋅☾☼☽⋅

Dawn had fallen upon Hampstead, London, and despite the soft nature of the night, Liliana awoke with a start. With heavy lids she looked over at the commotion and noticed Errol; his break was plastered against the bay window. Cringing, she took off her covers and rushed over to help him.

"For both of our sakes you have got to work on the landing," she whispered to him, as she placed him on the bench beneath the window.

Looking over her shoulder she noticed that Hermione had snored through the disruption. Must be nice, she thought, a bit irked that she hadn't slept deeper.

"So," Liliana said, still speaking softly, as she took a seat beside Errol, "what took Ron so long to respond?"

Errol hooted softly, tilting his head to signal his confusion too. Liliana smiled weakly at him and took the letter from beneath his talons. With a small yawn she started to read it. Every few lines Errol had to prod her with a talon to keep her awake, and by the end of it she lacked the energy to even think of writing back.

Looking at the gray owl, Liliana hoped it could sense her desperation to sleep — but if he did, he ignored it and stared back at her expectantly. At that point, she had no choice but to grab a pencil, a piece of parchment, and write Ron back. With a small yawn and a hazy mind, she scribbled away.

Dear Harold and Ronald,

I hope you had fun on your escapade despite it being incredibly illegal. 'Mione and I are just glad that Harry is OK and that you're both in one piece

Hermione wasn't awake, but she was sure that's how she would feel.

Anyway. About Dobby — you have a point, but it's hard not to think about his warning. Strange things happened last year, what if he's right and they happen again? Then again, I believed Quirrell and that ended up a disaster, so I dunno.

Oh, and one last thing! 'Mione and I are going into London next Wednesday to buy our school books (hopefully we get our supplies list soon, or we'll look silly showing up) and we would love to meet you lot in Diagon Alley. Let us know!

Love,

Lili and Hermione

After reading it over, Liliana folded it and tied it back to Errol with the same piece of yarn he'd arrived with. He hooted in gratitude once the letter was secure, then turned to fly out into the vast sky once more.

"Goodnight... or morning," she yawned, watching after him until he became a tiny speck.

Too tired to move, she nestled into the cushions atop the small reading nook and wrapped herself in her blanket. As she drifted off to sleep, the sun started to slowly rise, basking her in its golden hue. The lively sky soon faded into darkness, as did the soft, distant hoot of the old gray owl.
