The rest of August was a beach-filled, summer-fair, nature-walk, blur. Liliana woke up on September 1st with a bittersweet ache in her heart. She was excited to head back to Hogwarts, but she would miss the late night ice-cream runs and breakfast for dinners with her parents. She would even miss her dad's predictable puns that made her and Hermione roll their eyes in an amused (but never annoyed) way.

With her bed made, and her trunk filled to the brim with books, her school robes, and her favorite cardigan, Liliana headed downstairs to eat breakfast. It would be her last one at home until Christmas. She grabbed a muffin, some fruit, and poured herself a glass of orange juice, then took a seat at the table beside Hermione.

"Ready to head back?" Liliana asked her sister.

Hermione nodded, prodding at her cereal. "I'll miss home, though."

"Me too," Liliana agreed. "But we'll have fun at school. Think about it — new year, new material, new adventures."

"And a new teacher," Hermione added with a small smile.

"Right," Liliana said slowly. Ever since they'd found out Gilderoy Lockhart would be their new professor, Hermione had spent the rest of break reading his books. She had practically memorized them cover to cover. With the way Hermione went on about him, it sounded to Liliana like she was a bit obsessed. "Anyway. A new year means a new Quidditch season."

"Still want to try out for the team?" Hermione asked, though she already knew what the answer would be.

"Duh," Liliana said, grinning. "I've been working on my skills all summer."

Hermione laughed a bit as memories of Liliana running around the front yard with an old branch as her broomstick and pinecones as her quaffle came to mind. "It wouldn't hurt to work on them some more," she said. "Remember Mr. Wright from across the street?"

Liliana cringed. "In my defense, I didn't see him walking when I threw that pinecone."

"Mum had to bake him an apology pie," Hermione said, torn between amusement and disappointment at the incident.

"But it also doubled as a 'welcome to the neighbourhood' pie," Liliana said, remembering that he had moved in earlier that week. "And really, what a welcome it was."

Hermione stared at her sister in disbelief, then burst out laughing.

"What?" Liliana said, brows furrowed. "It was a memorable moment."

"You're terrible," Hermione spluttered, still shaking with laughter.

Liliana frowned. "But it was."

Once the sisters finished breakfast, they headed outside and into the car. Their parents had already secured their school trunks in the back. Mr. Granger then started the engine, and their old Ford Sierra trundled out of the driveway and into the busy London streets.
