Aj slid into the uber, tossing a quick glance around. "To xxx, please." He said to the driver.
Just as the door was closing, he noticed Niko approaching, Aj's eyes widened, but before he could react, Niko slipped in and joined him.
"Seriously?" Aj muttered, barely masking his irritation. "Get out."
Niko raised an eyebrow, his expression casual. "I'm heading to the same place. Just going to see Chunkz."
How did he even know I was going to see Chunkz?? Aj wondered.
Aj grumbled but didn't push the issue further. The ride was spent in silence, each lost in their own thoughts.
Niko's mind buzzed with confusion, trying to sort through the strange, warm feeling he had when he was around Aj. He tried telling himself it was just a desire to be friends, even though something deeper was stirring inside him.
As the Uber pulled up to the building, Aj was quick to exit, his annoyance clearly visible. He practically sprinted towards the entrance, determined to avoid sharing the elevator with Niko.
But Niko, with a smirk, watched him from a few steps behind before speed walking towards the building himself.
Aj reached the elevator and pressed the button, glancing back to see Niko approaching at a steady pace.
With a sigh, Aj stepped into the lift just as the doors began to close. Niko, quick on his feet, managed to slip in just before they shut completely.
The lift began its way up, and the air was thick with unspoken tension. Aj leaned against the wall, arms crossed and jaw set, clearly annoyed.
Niko, standing a few feet away, tried to ignore the way his heart seemed to race a little faster every time he glanced at Aj. He couldn't quite make sense of his feelings, but he hoped that maybe, just maybe, they could become friends.
The elevator hummed as it ascended, a steady rhythm that neither Aj nor Niko paid much attention to. Both were too wrapped up in their own thoughts.
Suddenly, the lift gave a sudden, jolting lurch as if it had dropped a few feet before catching itself.
Aj's heart leapt into his throat as he lost his balance, slipping and crashing to the floor of the elevator. "What the-" He gasped, his voice shaky.
He quickly scrambled to his feet, his hands trembling as he clutched the railing for support.
Niko, who had also stumbled but managed to stay upright, glanced over at Aj with mild concern. "Relax, it's just a little glitch." He said, trying to keep his voice steady.
Aj barely heard him, his mind racing. "What's happening? Why did it do that?" He was speaking more to himself than anyone else, panic lacing his words.
Niko's eyes followed Aj as he moved, noting the way his anxiety seemed to take over. "It's probably just a malfunction." Niko said, his voice calm, though inside he was starting to get somewhat worried himself.
Aj shook his head, trying to shake off the uneasy feeling settling in his chest. "I can't believe this is happening." He muttered, pulling himself together as he straightened up, while Niko simply watched, his mind stuck on how strangely endearing Aj looked when he was anxious.
Niko took a deep breath, forcing himself to stay calm for both their sakes. But his thoughts were all clouded with Aj.
Meanwhile, Aj was mentally berating himself, Get it together, don't show him you're scared. Of all the times to get stuck, why does it have to be with him?
