Chapter 35: Power Creep

 It's been a few days of running through cities, sometimes literally; Tang Wulin and the others had finally reached Shrek city once again. Unfortunately, they didn't have much time to reminisce as something terrible happened during these last few days. The Xiangqi board has been set by Tang Wulin to eradicate his first problem, the destruction of Shrek and Tang Sect HQ.

Walking through Shrek city, nothing seems to be out of order, soul masters of all ages and demographics come here to bask in the pure soul power surging through the area originating from the Sea Gods Pavilion and the great tree. In fact, it was far too peaceful, even for Shrek City, petty squabbles were commonplace between soul masters, especially the prideful one in which there are many.

Tang Wulin and the rest now, finished with their exam, were free to do as they wished until the exam's allotted time was over. Normal children would use that time to play, soul masters would use that time to continue their cultivation. But Tang Wulin would use that time to regulate 2 superpowers to thwart another superpower while at the same time playing, increasing his cultivation and helping his friends. Such is the responsibility of the main character.

Nevertheless that is what Tang Wulin does, splitting up with the rest and walking towards the Spirit Pagoda with Xie Xie and Gu Yue. Despite only going through a handful of training sessions. Xie Xie has changed drastically, becoming less feisty. Like a chilled heart of a leopard, Xie has become incredibly observant of the world around him, constantly letting small amounts of spirit power into the surroundings so subtly that only soul masters of far higher levels could notice. Not only this, but he has physically changed as well. Despite training within the SLBN, his actual body had grown, becoming a little taller.

After dying an uncountable amount of times, his mentality had gone through a rather odd change, becoming far more quiet in front of others outside of our little group, not just in speech but also in movement, as he no longer makes any noise at all while in motion. His footsteps, invisible and his breath inaudible. Xie Xie's potential was never truly grown upon in the past, constantly being overshadowed by Tang Wulin Gu Yue and Ye Yuanen. But Tang Wulin knew that he was hiding potential so deep that it could eclipse the vastness of space itself. He only needs to be pushed.

Gu Yue on the other hand was the same as before. Prideful beyond belief, but still impossibly strong for her age. What was noticeable is her possessive nature from before had changed, the duality between wanting to be beside Tang Wulin and being afraid of losing her goals due to be the close had been aggravated due to how forward Tang Wulin has been as of late causing what could be equated to hormonal imbalances within Gu Yue's psyche, something that both Tang Wulin and Gu Yue have noticed and while Gu Yue is trying to make distance, Tang Wulin is not willing to. He went back in time to be with her, to fix the mistakes that he had made. Unlike Gu Yue, Tang Wulin was giving into the dragon's instincts and will not let her go, within measure of course.

Tang Wulin has also changed, Being around Gu Yue, becoming more forward with her, has caused his prideful nature to mellow out slightly. However, it has made him become more volatile in return. Tang Wulin was running out of time to release the next golden dragon king's seal, especially because the golden dragon king's spear had been forcefully released when he lost control during the team battle. Something he thinks about often, it was that moment when he truly noticed the effect of losing himself. Yes he had lost control in the past but this was different, while before he was not in control, this time he was in control, he wanted to ravage the world around him, to destroy everything he saw. It was fundamentally different.

The 3 of them were in their own minds before waking up from their stupor. They had reached the interest between the Spirit Pagoda and the Tang sect, an insurmountable gap between Tang Wulin and Gu Yue that they could break through even in the past. A visage that Tang Wulin hated to the core. Clearly visible on his face caused both Gu Yue and Xie Xie to gulp.
