I trace tiny little circles on the lines of his palm, looking all so serious.
"Are you sure palmistry always tells the truth about the future ?" He asks.
"Yes," I says nonchalantly.
"What's my future then?"
My eyes light up like a thousand fireflies, As I confidently reply
"Us."
Kashti's POV - Present day
As soon as Akash told me that Nikhil was all over the news, my heart sank into my stomach. I immediately switched on the TV, my eyes glued to the screen as the reporter narrated the details of an accident.
As soon as I heard about the accident, my heart stopped. The mere thought of losing Nikhil was enough to send shivers down my spine. I was imagining the worst-case scenario, like him being critically injured or even worse, in a coma.
The news channels were showing the car and it definitely was in a bad shape. And the headlines scared me even further.
However, when I rushed to the hospital and saw him, I was relieved that it was nothing major. There were only a few scratches on his arm and a bandage on his forehead, but seeing him like that still made me emotional. The thought of losing him was too much to bear.
"Kash" he said giving a weak smile "I hope I didnt scare you"
I felt relieved to see that he's conscious and responsive. I let out a sigh of relief, but I can't help the tears that well up in my eyes.
"Nik, are you okay?" I ask, my voice shaking.
"I'm fine," he replied, trying to get up. "It's just a few scratches."
I can see that he's in pain, but he's trying to be strong. I can't help but feel guilty for the accident.
"It's all my fault," I whisper, the tears now streaming down my face. "If only I had been more careful, this wouldn't have happened to you."
"It's not your fault," he says, gently wiping away my tears. "It was just an accident."
"Yes but it was my car, I should have sent it for servicing, made sure it was in a perfect condition before I gave it to you" I said.
"Come on Kash, you had no idea the brakes would fail, you had no idea that there would be a diversion today, This has nothing to do with you" he said
"But Nik-"
There was a knock on the door.
It was Rivanah.
As soon as Rivanah arrived at the room she walked straight towards Nikhil's bed, ignoring everything else in her path. I couldn't believe how selfish she was being.
I had been here since the moment Nikhil was admitted, and she was only coming now? And to top it off, she was acting like she was the only one who cared about him.
"You know, I was really worried about you" Rivanah said, her voice filled with fake concern. "I'm surprised nobody else cared enough to come check on you"
I gritted my teeth, trying to remain calm. "Excuse me? I've all been here since the beginning. Where were you when he needed you the most?"
Rivanah rolled her eyes. "Please, Kashti. I know you have been friends with him for what like three years, but let's not pretend like you're the only one who cares about him."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"This isn't about me," I said firmly. "This is about Nikhil, and how he needs all of his team members to be here for him right now."
