Fatima stepped into the familiar café, the warm aroma of coffee wafting through the air. She immediately spotted Sumayya at their usual corner table, her fair skin glowing under the soft morning light. As Fatima approached, Sumayya stood up, her face breaking into a wide smile.

“Alhamdulillah, it’s so good to see you, Fatima!” Sumayya exclaimed, pulling her friend into a tight embrace.

“Wa’alaykumu s-salam, Sumayya. It feels like it’s been ages,” Fatima replied, hugging her back.

They sat down, settling into the comfort of their long-standing friendship. A waiter soon arrived, taking their orders before retreating, leaving the two women to their conversation.

“So, tell me, how is my alfa girl, Tahbeer?” Sumayya asked with a teasing smile.

Fatima sighed, a mix of pride and exasperation in her voice. “She’s doing well, but there’s always something with her. Just last week, she got into a fight at school.”

Sumayya raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “A fight? SubhanAllah, what happened?”

“She didn’t give me all the details, but apparently, some girl was provoking her, and things got out of hand. Tahbeer ended up standing her ground, as usual. She’s got that fiery spirit, just like her father,” Fatima explained, shaking her head with a small smile.

Sumayya leaned in, a curious expression on her face. “That’s interesting. Aalim mentioned something about a fight too. He said there was some commotion at school, and he had to step in to hold down a girl who was involved. He didn’t say much, but now I’m wondering…”

Fatima and Sumayya exchanged a knowing look, a grin slowly spreading across their faces as they realized the potential connection.

“You don’t think…?” Fatima started, her voice trailing off.

Sumayya chuckled. “It’s possible. Aalim didn’t mention any names, but he did say the girl was pretty tough. He had to actually hold her down to keep things from escalating further.”

Fatima couldn’t help but laugh softly. “That definitely sounds like tahbeer. She can be quite the force to reckon with when she needs to be.”

Sumayya nodded, her smile growing wider. “aalim said the same thing about this girl. Imagine that—our two kids, meeting again after all these years, and in such a dramatic way!”

Fatima leaned back in her chair, a wave of nostalgia washing over her. “SubhanAllah,  how long has it been since they last saw each other?”

Sumayya thought for a moment before answering, “It must be… what? Nearly ten years now? They were just kids back then.”

“Ten years,” Fatima echoed, shaking her head in disbelief. “They’ve changed so much since then. I was hoping they would bump into each other at school, but I never imagined it would happen like this.”

Sumayya laughed. “Well, if this is how they’re reconnecting, it’s certainly memorable. It’s funny how life works sometimes.”

Fatima sighed, her expression softening. “I just hope this doesn’t lead to more trouble. But who knows? Maybe this is a sign that they were meant to meet again.”

Sumayya smiled knowingly. “Maybe it is. You remember how close they were as kids? Always running around together, causing mischief wherever they went.”

Fatima laughed at the memory. “Yes, they were inseparable back then. Always getting into something—just like their mothers.”

The two women shared a look, their laughter fading into a comfortable silence filled with fond memories.

“You know,” Sumayya began, breaking the silence, “there’s that shuwa gathering at the end of the year. Everyone will be there. It could be a chance for them to reconnect—this time without the fighting.”

“Insha’Allah,” Fatima agreed. “That would be nice. They’re in the same school now, so maybe they’ve already started to recognize each other. If not, the gathering might just do the trick.”

Sumayya nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the perfect opportunity. We just need to let things unfold naturally.”

As they continued to talk, their conversation drifted to other topics—community events, family news, and preparations for the upcoming gathering. But the thought of their children crossing paths again, even through a fight, lingered in their minds.

When they finally stood to leave, they embraced again, holding onto the warmth of their friendship.

"InshaAllah we’ll see each other soon,” Sumayya said with a grin. “And let’s see what this year’s gathering brings.”

Fatima smiled as she walked to her car, her thoughts on Tahbeer and Aalim. Life had a funny way of bringing people together, and sometimes, it seemed, destiny needed a little push—or perhaps, a gentle nudge from old friends.
