He shot back. "Oh, shit!" He said automatically, gasping for air.
He squinted his eyes to get a clearer look at the woman- no, the girl standing in front of him.
"Are you okay, sir?" The same girl he'd stumbled upon at the car accident asked, he remembered those blue stripes and that heart symbol from anywhere.
"Fine- I'm fine." Alex sighed, catching his breath. "Hey kid, are you okay? How did you manage to make it out of-"
"Azura, the hell did I say about talking to strangers?"
Alex froze. His eyes widened and he froze. It was one of those monsters, one of those weird things that killed almost everyone he knew. The thing- no, dude? He stood at least 6'7 feet tall and looked really dangerous-
"Kid, get behind me." He said, as if on instinct he pushed the teenage girl behind him.
The weird wolf guy thing raised an eyebrow at him as if he wasn't even phased in the slightest bit. Before Alex knew it, the girl wasn't behind him anymore but at the monster's side.
"Kid, you need to stay the hell away from him, those things are-"
"Caleb isn't a thing!" Azura protested.
"Kid, you don't understand-" Alex walked towards her, attempting to get her away from the dangerous killer. But something else happened something that widened his eyes in shock.
Blue mist. Blue mist coming from the girl's hands pushed him away. Actual blue fucking mist came out of the teenager's hand and it literally drove him back.
"You're- You're not human either, are you?" Alex breathed, hesitantly staying put as he gazed at them.
"Dunno." The girl, Azura, shrugged. "But Caleb isn't a thing, and he won't hurt you either."
"Not if you don't give me a reason to, at least" The first words left the mo- Caleb's mouth.
Alex tensed, taking a hesitant step backward. "Do you have any idea what the hell's happening out there?"
"You mean the hybrid innovation?" Azura raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, I mean- Wait, the what innovation?"
"The hybrid innovation," Caleb repeated, looking completely uninterested. "Was bound to happen anyway."
"Slow down, what the fuck do you mean by hybrid innovation? Are hybrids actually real?!"
"Well," The taupe-haired male began, pointing at his wolf ears. "I thought that much was obvious by now."
Alex tried his best to collect himself, Caleb might be right. And if hybrids really did exist, he needed to think about things rationally.
"It's pretty simple, hybrids basically think they're better than everyone and wanna take some sort of year-long revenge on humans by making their whole kind go extinct."
The brunette could feel his heart stopped. "What..?" He whispered to himself, he looked back up. "And.. And you don't.. wanna kill me?"
"I don't care about that shit, don't try anything funny and you'll be safe for now," Caleb said threateningly.
His eyes trailed to the wolf hybrid's blind one. It had multiple cuts through it most obviously done by claws. Alex didn't know who this dude was, but he's definitely been through some shit. So it was better not to mess with him any further and go-
"Yay, new friend!" Azura shouted cheerfully and grabbed his hand, she was surprisingly strong for someone so small and young.
"What?" Alex said, confused.
