Unexpected Twist Of Fate

Chapter 1

I was walking down the Hogwarts corridor doing my usual run making sure that students where not out past dark. It was my third year in hogwarts but seen's me and harry and ron managed to stop he who must not be named last year dumbledore decided it was a good idea to make me a prefect this year. As i was walking down the hallway one thought could not leave my mind i really liked ron and i was going to confuse my feelings to him this year but i wasn't sure i would do that yet me and ron know each other seen's the first day on the train to hogwarts in our first year and we become close friends and harry too obviously and by telling him my feelings this year. A worry does cross my mind that i well ruin our friendship but at the same time i want to go for it i decided to take my mind off ron and focus on my duties as a prefect i loved that i got to be the prefect this year but there was one problem that i did not like. It's that i had to deal with malfoy because he also happened to be a prefect meaning that i had to work in close proximity with malfoy and after he called me a mudblood last year it's not exactly something i enjoyed to do but i can put up with him and for some odd reason when we where alone discussing what hallways we could cover he seemed not to be mean to me or bully me. But around others he did i kinda started to think he might actually have more feelings for me then just hate but i told myself it's malfoy there is no way and brushed those thoughts out of my mind as i was close to ending my shift and i was doing my last two rounds i was lost in thought again about telling ron when i bumped into snape. He glared at me with hatred in his eyes and with a stern and serious voice asked ms granger what are you doing in the hallway past this late hour i should take points from your house and give you detention for being out past curfew if you don't explain immediately i wanted to so badly to give snape a piece of my mind but i know that wouldn't do any good and seen's snape asked me what i was doing it made it clear to me that he didn't see my prefect badge so i took a deep breath. I am a prefect this year professor i was just finishing my last round before heading back to my common room snape glared at me but his eyes lowered down to see that i was wearing a prefect badge letting him know that i was allowed to be out past hours very while ms granger don't let me stop you from your duties snape snorted and turned on his heels down the hall clearly frustrated that he couldn't get me into trouble. I breathed a sigh of relief after he left i was about to start walking back to my common room when i heard a laugh from corner that was in the shadows haha did snape scare you granger i know that voice to while i turned to face where it came from and a blonde slytherin came out malfoy he had a smirk on his face but not a mean one. Sid off malfoy he didn't scare me i said back meaning for it to sound rude but instead it sounded playful like me and him where friends which we weren't but secretly i kinda wanted us to be and with malfoy being nice to me when no one is around it's turning out that way. Come now granger i am just playing around he said with that famous smirk of his crossing his lips again damn that smirk i cursed to myself we should get back to our common rooms now our shift is over i said back trying to ignore the happy feeling that i got from malfoy being so nice to me but at the same time my head was wondering why he was being like this towards me. He looked at me yeah i guess your right let's go did my ears just decisive me or did malfoy say i was right he turned around are you coming granger i just nodded and followed we walked side by side in silence and as we got closer to my common room i finally dared to ask what was on my mind i stopped and he noticed and stopped also why did you stop granger he asked me i looked at the ground then at him malfoy can i ask you something. His face didn't hold judgment or annoyance like i expected instead it held curiosity what is it granger i wanted to ask not that i don't like it or want you to stop i am just curious but why are you so nice to me when we are alone he looked at me for a second with an eyebrow raised and smirk on his face while maybe i want to secretly be friends granger out of all the things i expected malfoy to say this was definitely not one of them but what he did next shocked me even more he reached out his hand what do you say granger secretly friends we can pretend to hate each other in front of others but when it's just the two of us we can be friendly. I looked at him not believing what was happening but just by looking into his eyes i could tell this was not some sort of sick joke that he was pulling to laugh with his slytherin friends later so i took his hand i accept your friendship malfoy he smiled call me draco i laughed lightly you can call me hermione then then it was his turn to laugh. Draco walked me to my common room even though i said that he didn't need to do that he still insisted but we stopped one flight of stairs before my common room draco i turned to him he looked at me yes hermione you can't go any further remember what you said secret friends he understood what i said he took my hand and kissed it before saying goodnight hermione goodnight draco i said back as he walked off i walked up the reminder of the stairs told the password and walked in. I wasn't expecting anyone to be awake but i saw harry setting by the fire i walked over and set next to time you ok harry i asked there was silence for a few moments ha hermione you scared me harry said trying to catch his breath sorry harry i didn't think you would be spaced out you ok yeah i am just thinking about sirius black i put a reassuring hand on his shoulder harry hogwarts is the safest place you can be don't worry about it. Harry looked at me your right hermione thank you i needed that how was your night caught anyone i just shook my head harry i think i well be heading up to bed i told him fake yawning alright hermione goodnight i was about to walk up the stairs when i turned toward harry again harry you should also get some sleep too then i said goodnight and started walking up the stairs to the girls side. As i reached my side i walked instead and used magic to change into pj's and layed down on the bed but before falling asleep i couldn't get the kiss on the hand draco did out of my head but i tried my best knowing that if i didn't stop thinking about it i wouldn't be able to sleep.
