It was a perfect evening. The sound of the waves gently hitting the shore filled the air as we sat around the bonfire. Ang malamig na hangin ay nagdadala ng amoy ng dagat, na nagpaparamdam sa lahat ng bagay na kalmado at mapayapa. We were on vacation in Boracay, far away from the busyness of our daily lives.
The sun had already set, leaving the sky a mix of purple and orange. Stars were starting to appear, twinkling like tiny lights in the dark. Laughter echoed around us as we played a game of "truth or dare," enjoying the company of friends and a few new faces we had met that night. The night felt like it would be fun, just like any other vacation evening. But little did I know, that one dare would change everything.
I was sitting on the sand, holding a can of beer around the campfire with my friends and some strangers we’d just met that night when I was dared to do something I would regret for the rest of my life.
It was just a game, and we were having so much fun. Pero pagkatapos ng gabing iyon, napagtanto kong ang isang simpleng laro ay maaaring magbago ng iyong buhay magpakailanman.
We were on vacation in Boracay, with my friends-slash-workmates, when I accidentally got myself into a situation that I regretted deeply. I was dared. I was pushed. I was pressured. I was forced. At para mapanatili ang saya ng laro, hindi ko na naisip ang mangyayari sa akin, kaya't tinanggap ko ito.
The next morning, I woke up in a stranger's bedroom, half-naked. I couldn’t even remember how I ended up there.
"Aaaaagghhhhhhhh!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, covering my almost-naked body when I saw the topless stranger beside me. He woke up suddenly, startled by my scream.
"Why are you shouting?" He asked, confused, after realizing it was me who screamed.
"Anong ginawa mo sa akin?" I was on the verge of tears as I asked him. Did he assault me? Where are my friends? Why am I here? Bakit ako nagising na kasama ang taong ito? I don’t even know his name.
"You don’t remember anything?" He asked in disbelief. I shook my head. He just shook his head multiple times and then left for the bathroom. Hindi man lang nagbigay ng paliwanag.
I didn’t waste any time. I quickly put on my top. At least I was still wearing my bottoms.
Before the stranger came out, I hurriedly left the room to find my friends.
"Gising ka na pala, Z. How was your night with your husband?" I froze in my tracks when Mela, one of my friends, asked me that. What? Husband? Since when did I have a husband?
"What did you guys do? Why was I with that stranger?" I asked them, my voice almost shouting.
"Ask yourself what you did, Z. And he’s not a stranger, he’s your husband." Jes, another friend, said, giggling like it was all a joke.
"Can you just explain what really happened? I don’t remember a single thing." I said, trying to keep my temper in check.
"Seriously? Wala kang naalala, Z?" Fe, my third friend, asked, shocked.
I was about to throw my slipper at them in frustration when a hand stopped me from behind. My friends giggled. I turned around, ready to throw my slipper at whoever it was, but I froze when I realized who it was.
It was him, the stranger I was with, last night.
That morning, they explained everything after that stranger they called 'my husband' left for an urgent meeting.
I was so drunk that I didn’t remember anything. They told me I was dared by one of the guys we met that night. I chose ‘dare,’ and little did I know that his dare was for me to marry him. My friends pushed and forced me to say yes. Drunk and out of my senses, I followed their lead. I said yes to the dare. And because my friends were so ‘supportive,’ they brought a judge and made the wedding happen, with them as witnesses.
