Hyejin didn't want to get out of bed the next day. Though she had been excited about her first photoshoot with Ni-ki, she now dreaded it. She regretted answering the call and wished she could change the past. If only she had said no to the call or if only she had been the one who had died instead of her brother. Maybe then her mom wouldn't have taken her anger out on her.
With no other option, Hyejin dragged herself out of bed and got ready for the photoshoot. She did her best to look presentable, but her dark circles betrayed her lack of sleep. Her mind had been racing with troubling thoughts, preventing her from getting any rest.
She couldn't shake the feeling that her mom was right. She saw no point in looking for a boyfriend, fearing he would end up cheating on her like Siwoo had. She didn't believe anyone would ever like her enough to want to be with her. Miso had been right about one thing: she could never have a guy wrapped around her finger.
She quickly forced a cheerful expression as she started walking with Jiwoo.
"Are you excited?" Jiwoo asked. "We finally get to do our first photoshoot!"
"Yes, I'm so excited I can't wait!!" Hyejin replied, feigning enthusiasm.
Jiwoo noticed her friend's slight shift in demeanor but chalked it up to pre-shoot nerves.
When they reached their classroom, the girls would part ways. Hyejin felt a wave of anxiety at the thought of seeing Ni-ki. She had no idea how he would act around her after the events of the previous night.
How was she supposed to act after knowing he had heard her mom's comment about being cheated on? There was no way he wouldn't feel uncomfortable. They didn't know each other that well, yet he had overheard some of the harshest things her mom could say.
As she continued to overthink, she heard the main doors open, signaling that the boys had arrived. She tried to calm herself, knowing that Ni-ki was approaching.
"Hey," he said softly almost in a whisper.
"Hi," she responded as she held her breath.
The two of them simply stared at each other, unsure of what to say next. As she observed his face, she could see he was making an effort to keep a smile in place to make her feel at ease. Normally, he would be chatty as soon as he arrived, but today he was unusually quiet. Although there was some tension, he tried his best to make her feel as comfortable as possible.
"The clothes that you have to wear are over by the rack. You can go and change into them," she said to him as she avoided eye contact.
She couldn't help but feel a twinge of anxiety. Not knowing what he was thinking was tormenting her. She wanted to ask if he felt uncomfortable after what he heard last night, but she knew she lacked the courage to bring it up. She was the one who asked him to forget about it in the first place.
