Poison Matter

Day by day, Murad and the whole saray recovered. The wounds of such pain will always stay in his and Meltem's heart, but time will strengthen them more. However, the fate of Meltem was still unclear. Now, the only person who made her valuable in the palace is gone. It is clear that Murad does not want to see her again. So what will happen to her? Some of the girls said that she would return to the Old Palace. Some others even thought that she would be set free and continue her life out of here.
Kösem Sultan surprised us all, though she allowed Meltem to remain in the Harem. To me, it was a fair decision as it wouldn't be fair to send away a woman whose child has recently died and when her punishment is now over.

She seemed more mature and didn't have the same rudeness as before. Of course, it was still early to tell, but those months have made her a better person, it seemed. Since when she was exiled, a lot had happened, and she had to catch up with everything. When she learned about Maria Hatun, she couldn't believe it. Honestly, that silenced all those who thought that Maria was ordered by Meltem to poison me. About Maria, she still is locked up in one of the Palace's cells. No other information came out of her no matter the ongoing tentative of Haci Agha and the other guards.

I don't think that she even did it at all. First of all, there is no reason for her to poison me as I wasn't being a problem to her. Second of all, if she did it, then why did she confess that late, and this also has to do with the third reason: why isn't she saying anything else anymore? It means that or she is afraid of what will happen to her, which she should've thought before she'd do it, if she really did it, or there is someone else she's risking her life for. Maybe she's covering up for someone or someone threatened her.

- Who would do that and why? - Olga asked me as we were talking about this matter.

- I don't know, but that woman risked my life and my baby's. She mustn't expect to spend the rest of her life in that cell without explaining herself first.

- Maybe you can go and ask her, - Ardita intervened.

We three looked at each-other. That wouldn't be a bad idea at all. I deserve to know what really happened.

- Then I should go and talk to Haci Agha, - I said and headed to the Harem Courtyard where he usually is.

After glancing a bit at the guards and the maids, my eyes saw him talking to Beşir Agha. As we approached him, the latter left.

- Mihrişah Hatun, - Haci Agha said nicely while smiling, - what can I do for you?

I stepped a bit closer to him, and the girls began fake chatting to each-other to not attract attention from the others. Now the only thing was how was I going to ask him to help me, most importantly to accept to help me?

- Look, I'm going to say it directly, - and lowered my voice as he gave me a confused look, - I want you to help me meet Maria Hatun.

It wasn't even necessary for him to say no because judging by his expression, he definitely wasn't going to allow me.

- Hatun, that's impossible, - he said and tried to step back, but I held his arm.

- Please, Haci Agha, this is not fair, - and continued to speak before he'd say anything else, - I need to know why she did such thing.

- We spent two and a half months trying to get her to say something, and she didn't, but right after you're going to ask her, she's going to say it all, huh? - he replied angrily, - No is no!

Quickly, he walked away, but I went after him.

- Is there anything I don't know? - I asked him in a persuasive tone.

- Of course not, we've said all we know to you, - he replied and sped up.

- No, you've said nothing to me, - I raised my voice and stopped walking as I got tired.
