Chris would admit that his day did take a turn after that.
Once it was known that he had, could, and was a good shot, the boys' club just opened their doors, and turns out, it was a good time.
A pistol he was a dead ringer for, had spent a lot of time with that, but that was not all they had.
Rifles, AK's, a mounted M2 Browing machine gun, and shit illegal in all fifty states outside of having a federal license. Turns out, Pete did, and so did Caleb.
Frankly, Caleb had never been as turned on by anyone as he was when Chris had fired that shot off, and it didn't soothe his libido at all, when he sat on the bed of the truck, downing water, watching that man learn the ins and out of an AR-15 with Pete.
He was so distracted by the son of a bitch in that sleek look, looking sexier than any man had any right to be while looking like some character from a fucking Manga, and damn near started sweating a bit when he took aim.
Pete ran back a few steps and he started taking targets out.
He wasn't the only one firing, but he was the one Caleb was watching.
Torin sat down next to him, glanced from those green eyes locked on target to Christian, and said mildly after chugging down half a beer. "How's it going with him, Caleb?"
Those green eyes flicked to him, and it was such a betraying look that Torin felt his brows rise. Just that very small curve of lips and those eyes went a little softer, then he grinned and laughed that deep roll of sound and picked up his own beer off of the truck bed. "Really good actually."
Torin laughed softly and just nodded, a little blown away. In the months he had seen him, to say it was a wildly different side of the man regarding Christian was just an understatement. "I never really thought," He hesitated when those eyes hit his, and said fuck it, "I never thought you and Chris got along like this is all."
Caleb just shrugged. "Neither did we. Turns out," He smiled mildly at those curious black eyes. "We've been looking about everywhere else but at each other for twenty years, and frankly, I'm pissed off it took that long."
Torin mulled that over, and considered everything he did know about the two of them, just from before, and then waffled his hand. "Meh, I'm not surprised by it honestly. I still remember you with him back in the day." Caleb looked surprised and confused and Torin laughed. "You don't remember how often he pissed you off over nothing at all, or how often we'd be sitting around talking about...whatever the fuck it was, and you'd just pop off when he passed by?" He deepened his voice to a near-dead ringer of his own, "Chris is such a fucker, never will even look your way in the hall..." He grinned at that almost uncomfortable expression. "You were always eyes locked on him every damn day." He pointed right at him then and laughed. "Fuck, you used to stay after classes just to fuck with him, and I know you would just chat him right up, flirt and rile him right up. It was like your favorite sport Junior year, was seeing how fast you could make him blush."
Caleb had to laugh and just ran a hand through his hair, and supposed in retrospect, he had always paid an unhealthy level of attention to him. Truly, it had only been after high school that they had really broken contact daily, and even when he had seen him with Mikael?
There hadn't been a time he hadn't looked him over and just thought, holy fuck, he just keeps getting better with age, or something along those lines.
Torin just grinned and patted his leg in sympathy. "That's okay. I always noticed him eyefucking the shit out of you too. I think you're both just a pair of morons that never saw the other one coming."
