POV:

Adam Hansen

Flora's pissed at me, and it's driving me nuts. She's been avoiding me for days.

During meetings, I try to reach out to her through mindlink, but she just ignores me. If I wasn't worried about scaring her, I'd grab her, take her to my office, and pressed her hard against the couch, giving her a "loving education". would have braced her legs over my shoulders and taken firm control of her soft body so that every sigh and shudder she gave was because of me.

Damn it! This has been going on for three days. Every time I try to get close, she either runs off or surrounds herself with coworkers.

She's acting like nothing happened, but I can't get that night out of my head. She's in my thoughts, haunting me like a ghost. She's my mate, but she won't let me near her. I don't know what to do or what I even want anymore. It's driving me crazy. Is it just about sex?

No, she's mine. I can't let her slip away.

It's fine. I'll fix this. That's what an Alpha does. I can handle it.

"Better hope so," my wolf grumbled.

Later that evening, I came back with a gift bag. I'd spent the entire afternoon choosing a pair of pink diamond earrings. The sales clerk nearly lost it by the time I finally picked them out. Girls like this kind of stuff, right? As I was picking them out, I couldn't stop thinking about Flora, how her neck tensed up when she came, how her little ears would flush red. God, I'm a creep. I hate myself for this. I'm acting just like those wolves I used to laugh at for being so pathetic when they found their mates.

"Where's Flora?" I walked around the office, but she was nowhere to be found. Not even in the secretary's office, though I could still smell the faint trace of her scent.

Confused, I went back to my office, ready to text her. But then I noticed a bunch of messages in the company group chat. No one ever talks in that chat, so what's going on today? Curious, I clicked in.

Irene Jonah: [Wow, Mr. Hansen and that pretty girl look so good together.]

Gail Longman: [They're a perfect match.]

...

What the hell?

My head was full of question marks. What girl?

Feeling uneasy, I saw the messages congratulating me on finding my mate. Did everyone find out about me marking Flora?

Finally, I saw the picture they were all talking about—me and Jessica Forster.

Jessica used to be my neighbor, the daughter of my dad's Beta lawyer. We've been friends since we were kids, went to the same high school, and my mom loves her. She's always been like a sister to me. Jessica's getting married this year to another Alpha from a different pack. Today, she came back to visit her mom, so I took her out for lunch.

But now everyone thinks we're together. Did Flora see these messages too? Did she misunderstand and get jealous?

I quickly texted Flora, but she didn't reply. I called her, but no one picked up.

Damn it! I thought of something and called Irene Jonah into my office.

"Where's Flora? Why isn't she here?" My voice was low, almost angry.

Irene Jonah looked scared, her voice small as she answered, "Flora left around noon. I think her mom's sick."

So she left because of her mom's illness? Maybe it wasn't what I thought.

"When is she coming back?"

"Coming back?" Irene Jonah looked up in surprise. "Flora quit. She's not coming back."

"What?" I shot up from my chair, papers flying off my desk.

Great. Just great!

"When did this happen?" I took a step toward Irene Jonah, gritting my teeth.

"It was around noon today. Flora looked really upset, so I asked her about it."

"Why didn't anyone tell me?"

Irene Jonah looked confused. Normally, resignations just go through HR. Ben usually handles anything involving me.

I took a deep breath, calming down a bit, and texted Ben.

【Send me Flora's registered address.】

Then I asked, "Who posted that photo in the group chat?"

"Huh?" Irene Jonah looked startled. "You saw it?"

I nodded, my face still tense.

"It was Stan Perkin from accounting."

"Good, very good," I muttered as I added another note to Ben in my message: *We might need to reevaluate some of our staff.*

After hitting send, I looked at Irene Jonah. "You can go now."

She nodded quickly and left, closing the door behind her.

Alone in my office, I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temples. The frustration was pounding through me. I had to find Flora. This wasn't how things were supposed to go. She couldn't just leave like this, thinking whatever she's thinking about me and Jessica.

I reached for my phone, staring at her name on the screen. She'd blocked me out of our mindlink, wasn't answering her messages or calls. She's my mate, and she's running away from me. From us.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm . No matter what, I had to get to her. I had to make her understand.

This wasn't just about me. It was about *us*.

And I wasn't about to let her slip away. Not like this.
