I felt a pang of guilt once more as I listened to Ralph’s words, so laced with sincerity and hope. The promise of a world where every desire would be met with anticipation, where luxury wasn't merely pursued but woven into the very fabric of existence, seemed almost too perfect to be true. The vision he painted was one of a radiant future, a realm of golden and emerald hues. Yet, the more he spoke, the more my own doubts gnawed at me.
I couldn’t help but question if it was too late to retract my previous decisions. Should I side with Ralph now, given his seemingly superior means of providing for me? The deal I had made with Lucifer weighed heavily on my conscience. It was a dangerous gambit, and the fear of what might happen if I were to betray him sent shivers down my spine. The mere thought of Lucifer’s wrath was enough to make me gulp nervously.
Feigning a smile, I turned to Ralph, trying to mask my inner turmoil. “Perhaps we should have dinner now. It must be getting cold.” I suggested, hoping to shift the focus away from the uncertainty that plagued me.
Ralph chuckled, a sound rich with amusement and confidence. “I’m the Devil King, after all. A simple snap of my fingers is all it takes to warm the food once again.” He affirms with a playful grin. His confidence, almost tangible, made me feel as though there was no limit to his power.
He leaned in and kissed my forehead, his touch both tender and possessive. Our hands entwined as he led me out, his pride in my appearance evident. The way he looked at me, with an expression that mixed admiration and something deeper, made me feel like I was the most beautiful woman in the world. It was as though his gaze saw not only my outer beauty but also the part of me that was vulnerable and yet resilient.
The attention he lavished on me was unprecedented. For the first time, Ralph spoke with a level of attentiveness and devotion that was both flattering and disconcerting. The promises he made, the future he envisioned, seemed almost too good to be true. And as I walked beside him, enveloped in his pride and the grandeur of his world, I couldn't deny that a part of me reveled in the attention. It was intoxicating, this feeling of being the center of his universe, even if it came with its own set of fears and uncertainties.
As we approached the dining hall, I couldn't help but reflect on the dramatic shift in my life. Ralph’s promises of infinite happiness contrasted sharply with the shadows cast by my past decisions. Yet, for now, I had to navigate this new reality, balancing the thrill of Ralph’s affection against the looming threat of Lucifer’s vengeance.
Ralph pulled out the chair for me with a flourish, the gesture surprisingly gentlemanly. As I took my seat, I couldn’t help but marvel at the dining table before me. It was laden with an array of delicacies, many of which I had only seen on television or in glossy magazines. The feast was overwhelming in its opulence.
“Is there some kind of banquet or festival today?” I asked, curiosity piqued. Ralph chuckled softly, shaking his head as he settled into the chair beside me rather than across from me, which took me aback.
“No, this is all for you. A welcoming party to celebrate your arrival. The queen of this palace has finally arrived.” I wondered aloud whether it was typical for rich—or in this case, rich demons—to be so extravagantly indulgent. He didn’t seem to think twice about the lavish spread before us.
“Did you prepare all this food yourself?” I inquired, though I half expected the answer to be no. He smiled, admitting that the food was prepared by his servants. “We definitely can’t finish all this. Is it just going to be wasted?” The thought of so much food going to waste unsettled me.
Ralph laughed, wrapping his arms around my shoulders in a casual, affectionate manner. He popped a piece of meat into my mouth, his touch both tender and reassuring. “Relax. All of this was made with magic. Nothing will go to waste. If necessary, I can make it disappear with a snap of my fingers.”
