On the desk of his room, Jay writes in his diary. "Dear diary," he wrote. "It's been 2 weeks since that sit-down I had with Dad and Uncle. It's June now. Since then things have been improving. I moved back into my house and Dad's been helping me with the whole turning to a bird thing and let's just say, my landing has gotten...better." Jay cringes as he continues writing.

"Mom, Dad, and I have been hanging out doing game nights with Joan and Alexa, spending time in the park, and eating out. Mom signed me up for the camp, and I'm going when it starts on Friday. I'll be at Vale by Wednesday."

Jay's pen dries out of ink and he grabs a new pen from his pencil holder. "I can't wait to see the shocked look on Amethyst's face when he sees me. I'm going to settle the score with him when I get back." Jay holds a smug smile. "Hope his parents are well too. Haven't seen her in a while either." Jay finishes writing, closing his book.

The white journal pans out, with Jay looking out the window near him. He was boarded in first class, the plane hundreds of feet in the air. As he stares at the early morning sky, he thinks to himself. 'Can't believe they let me come here unattended', he thought. Jay's parents approved his request to come to Vale unaccompanied, as he trusted himself to be safe.

'Wonder if Dad flies to save on airport costs. Can't imagine the number of frequent flier miles he's gathered. Maybe more than Mom.' Jay chuckles to himself, sipping his glass of soda as the sun rises.

The plane lands at the Vale National Airport and Jay steps out, luggage in toe. He walks out the gate and goes outside, smelling the fresh morning air. As he was about to take a step he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turns around and is immediately welcomed with a tight hug by his cousin. "Missed me?"

Jay turns his head and recognizes Ruby Rose, usual black-red hair and silver eyes wearing a plaid red jacket and jeans, taller than Jay's 5' 6". Jay hugs her back and as they let go Ruby brushes some lint off his shirt.

Jay smiles before speaking. "Missed you too, Rubes." He lightly punches her on the shoulder before Oscar enters. The dark-skinned boy has grown into a fine young man, wearing a collared green shirt and a jacket wrapped around his waist. He stands next to Ruby with his cane, considerably taller than her. Oscar gives a warm handshake to Jay before speaking.

"How's Mantle?" the polite farmer asked as the three walked to the car.

"Pretty good. Hung out with my family, trained with Joan, it was nice." When Jay got in and sat in the back of the red-colored van, he reached into his bag. "By the way..."

He gave Ruby, who was in the passenger seat, a container of ice cream. He also gave Oscar a chewing toy for Zwei. "Bought these at the store at the airport. Didn't want to come here empty-handed.

Ruby looked at the ice cream. It was vanilla mixed with cookie dough and cookies and cream. She smiled with stars in her eyes. "Aw," she said. "Thanks. Now.." Ruby reached for a spoon and started to dig in.

Oscar continues. "So how's everyone back home? I heard from Jaune you got a tour of Copper Base."

"Oh yeah!" Ruby was muffled from eating her ice cream, but put the spoon out of her mouth before talking again and feeding her ice cream to Oscar. "Weiss also told me Ren and Nora's your neighbors now, right?"

Jay giggled a bit and replied, "Yeah. Met their daughter Lex too." Jay leaned back with a warm smile. "She's cool."

Ruby smiled back. "Well that's good, and it's good you're staying here for the summer too."

Oscar gulped a bit of Ruby's ice cream before stopping at a sign. "I agree. You're going to love Patch."

Jay responded with a nod.
