Hi everyone.
I know I said I would be busy, which I still am, but because this was so short, it didn't take too long to write for. The next few updates will also maybe come quicker, however for other fanfictions, I am still unsure of as of right now. I'll keep you all posted in case anything happens.
That's all for now. Enjoy.
As much as Zuma wanted Skye to be right, he knew it was too risky to follow through with her plan. If at any point the hound discovered where they were, he couldn't guarantee they would get out of there alive. Plus, this might have been their only opportunity to finally put the thing down once and for all.
Glancing back to Skye, he shook his head and made his choice; "Sorry, Skye, but that's too dangerous for the both of us. This is something I have to do."
"W-what? Zuma-!"
"Skye, listen!" Zuma interrupted the cockapoo before she could raise her voice and give away their location. "We have the element of surprise, and we have to abuse that as much as possible! If we throw it away, we won't have another occasion like this again. This is the best chance we have to kill it!"
Skye stared at Zuma, distraught by his answer, but couldn't form her response for a while. Finally, after taking a deep yet hushed sigh, she gave a hesitant nod to the chocolate labrador.
"...Don't die, Zuma."
"I can't promise you that, but I'll try my best," the chocolate labrador replied. "And Skye, if something happens to me, you need to run."
Skye, although still bearing an uncomfortable look on her face, gave another nod to him before moving to the other side of the bench they were hiding in front of, getting ready to run off from the area while Zuma executed his plan. Zuma knew there was a chance Skye wouldn't listen to him if something went wrong, but he had to trust she wouldn't do anything that would endanger herself should that happen.
Moving to the opposite side of the bench from Skye, Zuma paused and listened to what the wolf hunting them was doing and how close it was to them. It was still sniffing the area, meaning it also didn't know where they were yet, and while it was still a bit away from them, it was getting closer to their location.
He concluded, like Skye had earlier, that he would need to assess the situation more before making a decision; cautious and paranoid of being spotted, Zuma peeked out of cover slightly, careful to not expose himself more than he needed to. The side of its body was facing him, meaning it could turn to face him any second now, but its head was still planted on the ground as it sniffed out Skye's and Zuma's scents.
Satisfied with the information, Zuma ducked back to form a plan. If he wanted to execute his idea with the golf cart, he needed to get to it first; however, he needed to be extremely careful in his approach. One big mistake is all it would take for him to suddenly be turned into wolf food.
He came up with three ideas, all of which weren't great but they were all he had. The first one was to take the opportunity that was given to him from the hound not looking his way and quickly rushing over to the cart. The problem with this approach was that although he would have to go fast so that he would get there before he would be seen, he had to make sure he made as little noise as possible to ensure it would be less likely to look his way. And considering the massive and heavy pack still strapped to his back, he wasn't sure if he could manage that.
The second idea he had was taking a more tentative approach and slowly walk towards the cart, prioritizing the fact he would make zero noise over getting there as fast as possible. Despite wanting to not make any noise, though, the glaring issue with this idea was that if he was too slow, he was likely to be caught in the open. And that was something he needed to avoid as much as possible. Still, better safe than sorry... right?
His final choice was also very risky, but one he considered heavily. If he could find a way to wrap around it, he could get behind it and then get to the cart before it had a chance to realize it was behind him. Even if it realized he was behind it, he could dart back into cover before it spotted them. However, not only would he have to hope its sense of smell wouldn't pick up on him, which was something, but if something went wrong with this plan, then he would be in more danger than in the other two scenarios since he would be closer to it.
He couldn't waste any time on a decision. He had to make his choice right now or else he would lose his one opportunity to get over there.
Alright, Zuma's plan was chosen; that surprised me, but if that's what you want, that's what we'll do. Now, remember, you have three strikes to execute this correctly. Choose poorly three times, and Zuma dies, so don't do that. Good luck.
