CHAPTER EIGHT | No Chill
Sitting on my mother's bed with Rue and Gia, I felt an overwhelming sense of belonging and peace. Gia was asleep, her gentle breaths mingling with the calm air of the room. Rue and I nestled against our mother's lap, feeling the comforting weight of her hand playing softly in our hair.
The sensation was more than just physical; it was emotional and deeply reassuring. The touch of a mother, tender and warm, transcended any differences in blood or heritage. Though I was adopted, the love and care she showed us made it clear that we were a family bound not by DNA but by unwavering affection and connection. In moments like these, all doubts and insecurities faded away, leaving only the pure and simple truth: I was home.

We were all gathered in a dimly lit room, the air thick with anticipation and a touch of rebellion. Rue sat quietly, while Ashtray meticulously tattooed the word "Rules" on the inside of her lip. Observing the process, I couldn't help but mutter, "Weirdo." Unfazed, Ashtray held up a mirror, allowing Rue to inspect his handiwork. "Looks good," he said with a hint of pride. As I turned towards Jules, a mischievous smile crept across my face. Ashtray's voice broke the moment, "Yo, you ready?" he asked Jules, who seemed a mix of curiosity and apprehension.
"How bad did it hurt?" Jules queried, her eyes wide with a blend of fear and excitement. "It didn't hurt at all," Rue replied, obviously trying to sound nonchalant. Ashtray chimed in, "It's all good. I've been doing this for years." Jules hesitated for a moment, then turned to Rue, "I love you, Rue, but I'm not fucking doing that."
I couldn't help but smirk at Jules' reaction. Despite her initial reluctance, within moments, Jules found herself under the needle, wincing slightly as Ashtray worked on her lip tattoo. "Y'all are weird," I chuckled, shaking my head. Rue, always the instigator, turned to me with a mischievous glint in her eye. "You're next," she said, her voice challenging.
