"Hey babe," I called out through the house as I entered, kicking my sneakers off.

"Kitchen!" Abel yelled back.

Dave came prancing into the small hall, wanting to say hello. I scratched him behind the ear and gave him a biscuit, before going into the small living room, continuing to the kitchen.

"Hey love, I'm baking," Abel said happily, flour covering his cheeks, swinging around a spatula.

I snorted and grabbed a hold of the ugly flower-patterned apron.

"What're you baking?" I murmured as he kissed me. I gently ran my thumbs over his cheeks, getting flour off.

"Cupcakes. With butter. So much butter."

"Mmh, I love butter." I wasn't actually thinking of butter anymore. Or cupcakes. I'd rather he spent all of his attention on me, instead of his cake batter.

He didn't agree as he took a step back, shaking his head at me. "Wicked wolf," he chuckled. "Speaking of wicked wolves, how was the pack meeting?"

"Don't call it pack meeting," I groaned and rolled my eyes. "It's more like... Group therapy at this point."

"Wasn't that the point when you gently started collecting other lost puppies?"

"Yeah, I guess." I sat down by the dining table and sighed, Abel going back to his cupcake batter. "I don't know if I'm doing anything remotely... Good though. How do you know you're doing the right thing?"

"You don't, I guess," Abel said as he poured batter into the moulds. He popped it in the oven and turned back towards me. "But Gael, I don't think you're doing the wrong thing either. You're at least giving them all a community. And sure, there's only three, but that's three more than there was this time last year. You've brought in three more wolves to this little town. After years of there being no one. And Mags says, there'll be more, right?"

"Yeah, the more wolves are around, the more will come."

"Especially with the Happy Wolf here." He winked at me and set a timer on the little clock shaped like an egg.

"I mean, I'd hope so. I want there to be even more and it's hard to have to wait for them."

"You wanna post something on social media? 'Wolves wanted for companionship. Call Gael the Happy Wolf.'"

"Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. You read my mind," I replied dryly and sent Abel a tired look.

"I'm so smart," he chuckled and sat down opposite me, putting the egg-clock on the table. "You just have to be patient, Gael."

"I hate being patient. Why can't I have instant gratification immediately?"

Abel snorted. "Not how the world works, my love." He put his hand on top of mine, his thumb running over my little finger.
