9:25pm
Nightfall became the most precious time of the day especially since our kids slept in. The room packed with a comfy, fading light from the TV.
I curled up underneath the blanket, propping myself up with pillows, a book open in my hand. The room was quiet except for the low murmurs of the TV and the rustles of pages as I turned each one.
From down the hall, I could hear the gentle clicks of the nursery door closing. Beyoncé soon came strolling in, shaking a yellow bag of m&m's.
She popped a few chocolate peanuts in her mouth then threw the wrapper in the trash. A few minutes later, I felt the bed shift when she climbed in.
Warmth soothed me as she scooped me from behind, her arm draping over my waist. She pecked my lips and tightened her hold.
"You still reading ... Their eyes ... were ... watching God, yeah?" She asked softly, her breath tickling my ear a bit. "Those kids worn me out."
"Well that should teach you to stop taking them out on a school night." I cackled.
"Yeah well, they deserved it a-and it's been a pretty minute since we've been out."
"Mhm. Those kids spoiled rotten to the bone."
"Yeah, thanks to you."
I tilted the book aside and glanced back at Beyoncé who wore a sly smirk. "Thanks to me? Oh no you did all of that on your own big papa."
"Whatever, you the one picked out the place."
"After y'all sprung the whole amusement park thing on me, so try again." I sassed.
She chuckled. "Alright, alright, you got that."
"Oh I know I do."
"Mhm. What chapter you on?"
Before I could respond, she snatched the book out of my hand. "Babe!" I protested, laughing as I tried to grab it back.
"Damn you haven't got to part where he tried to kill her naive ass?" She held it just above my reach, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
I gasped, slapping her arm for spoiling the following sequence and lunged for the book. She moved just in time, and we began wrestling playfully.
"Give it back!" I whinged.
"Now, where are your manners?" She said, her lips curving into a big wide grin.
"Giselle!"
After many failed attempts, I gave up the chase and collapsed back onto the pillow. She chuckled some more while flipping through pages.
"Y-You're going to make me ... lose my margin give me the book ... please?" I asked breathlessly, trying to cast a serious expression.
Beyoncé finally relented, handing the book over with a playful smirk. I rolled my eyes and skimped pages until I found the one I was just on.
"You found any places for our honeymoon?"
I cackled. "We just set our date. Give it time."
