The people of Toufu hissed and mocked Cross as she held at her side both the Venommix Shooter and the sword of their land. She was their new king, and she had already begun building a strange structure with the help of strangers from beyond their land.
Kaguragi, now by her side, asked what exactly they were building. She explained it simply as a train station, a way to increase trade and tourism between their lands and Shugoddam, where she had already built another station. But it wasn't just limited to their two kingdoms; it extended to lands far beyond, from which she had come. It was a standard practice she put forth whenever she traveled to a new land: to set up trade and tourism routes between her lands and the new lands, allowing for greater prosperity for both. She admitted that usually getting permission to set up such a station required more work, but as king, she had the authority, and as a servant to Racules, she had his blessing.
While the people were still not happy with their sudden new king, they had to admit the idea of new foods from foreign lands, new entertainment, and new visitors was appealing. It fed into everything their kingdom was about: prosperity, agriculture, and entertainment. With the blessing of their old king, the people started to accept the new one. She might not be as bad as they had thought.
Racules, from his throne in Shugoddam, was also pleased. He had secured, through his vassal, one of the four kingdoms that had risen up against him. The tension in his heart lessened, for when the time came and their great enemy struck, he had at least one kingdom he could rely on. The stranger from the stars had proven her loyalty twice over. Now Racules could call himself King of Shugoddam, but also King of the In-Between and King of Agriculture. Only technology, justice, and medicine escaped his grip, and then there was the minor issue of his unruly brother, the traitor in red, the self-proclaimed tyrant king.
Kaguragi: "Cross, I must admit, your plans are ambitious. But do you truly believe the people will accept these changes?"
Cross: "Change is always met with resistance, Kaguragi. But once they see the benefits—new foods, new entertainment, new opportunities—they will come around. Prosperity speaks louder than words."
Kaguragi: "And what of Racules? Do you trust him?"
Cross: "Trust is a luxury we cannot afford. But for now, our goals align. We must be vigilant and prepared for any betrayal."Kaguragi: " and what of you how does the crown feel now? Do you have a people to lead."
Cross sighed: " in my years and my travels may have been many things and inventor, healer, ninja, waitress, business owner, feral beast, cop, thief, hero. Many titles and many names, but never king never a leader of a nation, a leader of men perhaps a leader of heroes but never have a nation. It is a heavyweight, but with you by my side, guiding me I think we will all prosper."Kaguragi nodded quietly.
As the construction of the train station progressed, the people of Toufu began to see the potential benefits. Markets buzzed with excitement over the prospect of new goods and exotic foods. Children played around the construction site, dreaming of the adventures that awaited them on the trains.
One evening, as the sun set over the horizon, Cross stood on a hill overlooking the station. Kaguragi joined her, his expression thoughtful.
Kaguragi: "You've done well, Cross. The people are starting to accept you."
Cross: "It's a start. But we have a long way to go. Trust is not easily earned."
Kaguragi: "True. But you've shown them that you care about their prosperity. That's more than many kings can say."
Cross: "Thank you, Kaguragi. Your support means a lot."
As they stood in silence, watching the workers below, a messenger arrived, breathless and urgent.
Messenger: "King Cross, advisor Kaguragi, urgent news from Shugoddam. Racules has summoned you both. There's been an attack."Kaguragi flinched at his new title, a harsh reminder of his new place in the pecking order, but also his new freedom. He and cross exchanged a worried glance. The peace they had worked so hard to build was fragile, and now it was under threat.
Cross: "We must go, now."
Drawing her phone a lion headed train pulled out of the sky, "follow me, the galexy line will get us there the fastest"
Kaguragi: "Agreed. Let's hope we can resolve this without further bloodshed."
As they hurried to prepare, the weight of their responsibilities pressed heavily on their shoulders. The future of their kingdoms depended on their actions, and they could not afford to fail.
