The phone slips from my hand and clatters onto the island. I barely register the girls asking what's wrong, or the rapid beeping of my monitor. All I can do is sit there numbly until a sharp pain on my cheek snaps me out of it.
"Natasha!" Wanda yells.
Rubbing my cheek I look at Natasha, "did you hit me?"
She moves my hand and tilts my head to look at my presumably red cheek, "you were in shock, so yes I did."
Wanda slides my phone back over to me, "I didn't mean to snoop, you dropped it and then just went pale."
The stool I had been sitting on screeches across the floor as I jump up, "I gotta go." Shoving my phone in my pocket, I'm heading to the elevator when someone grabs my arm. "What?" I ask, irritated.
Wanda let's go and points to my feet, "you're not wearing shoes."
Looking down I see that she is correct. Grabbing a pair from beside the elevator I push the button before realizing that Allie took the car. Looking at the girls I ask, "can you drive me? Allie has the car and my driver isn't working today."
"We were going to anyway," Natasha answers.
"We weren't going to let you go alone," Wanda confirms.
"Thank you," I tell them softly. The elevator opens and we pile in, silent on the ride down and out to their car. They stopped in front of a little red sports car and we climbed in. "This is not what I was expecting your car to look like," I tell them as it purrs to life.
Natasha whips it out of the parking spot and onto the street, weaving between traffic, "it's Wanda's."
"Yeah big bad Natty wouldn't be caught dead driving this everyday to her job," Wanda jokes. "She has a truck."
"That makes more sense," I mumble as I look out the window. A million thoughts pour through my head- what happened? Are both of them hurt or just Allie? Is she hurt or something worse?
Before I know it we are pulling up to Stark Memorial and Natasha pulls into a spot. I'm out of the car before she has it in park and make a beeline to the doors. I hear Wanda and Natasha calling for me to slow down, but it's like my body won't listen and I speed up instead.
The hospital doors fly open as I barge my way through. Ignoring the woman at reception I go straight to the computer behind the counter. The woman watches me, anger slowly forming on her face. "Um excuse me, you can't do that!" Ignoring her I type in my codes, the woman now storming towards me, "lady! This is a restricted space! You can't be back here!"
Rounding on her I inform her, "actually I can be. Megan Stark, nice to meet you. Now shut up and let me find my daughter!"
"Remind me never to make her mad again," I hear Natasha mutter, having finally caught up to me.
The computer chimes, drawing my attention from the now frightened woman. Allie Stark- level four- ICU
"She's this way," I tell the girls, going to the employee only door. Hitting the button on the panel I say, "voice override, Megan Stark, number 19006."
"Override confirmed, welcome Miss Stark," the door chirped as it opened.
As we go through Wanda asks, "do you have to do that at every door?"
"No, there's sensors that are tracking me and they'll open the door when I get to it." On cue the door we were walking towards opens for us. Going for the private elevator, it also opens and in a mater of seconds we were on the fourth floor and heading towards the reception area. When we get through the doors I'm expecting Ash to be there, but instead, it's Allie that's standing at reception, a bandage on her head and yelling at the woman behind the counter. "Allie?" I croak out.
She spins around and when she sees me, comes running, slamming right into my arms. "Mama," she sobs.
Holding her tight I murmur, "are you ok? I got a notification that you were in the hospital."
"It's Ash," she sobs. "They won't tell me anything."
"What happened?" I ask her, pulling away to look over her. Aside from the bandage on her head she looked fine.
Allie wipes her face with her sleeve, " we went to Ash's house to get some of their things for the weekend and.. he was there. Drunk. He started yelling and swinging his bottle around," she stops and takes a shaky breath. "Ash got between us and he.. hit Ash. Over and over. I tried to stop him and he," she motions to her bandage. "When he realized that he had hit me he left and I called the ambulance and gave my name for Ash because I knew they'd take better care of them if the hospital thought that Ash was a Stark."
"You did the right thing baby," I tell her, pulling her into me again. Kissing the top of her head I say, "why don't you go down to the cafeteria with Wanda and get a snack and I'll see about Ash."
She pulls back, "but I want to be here."
"I know you do, but I would feel better if you went and ate." I look at Wanda, "can you take her please?"
"Of course," she nods. Holding out her hand to Allie she says, "let's get you some juice, you probably could use the sugar once the adrenaline wears off."
When they leave, Natasha turns to me, "I couldn't help but notice you specified for Wanda to take her and not both of us."
I take a shuddered breath, "I need your help."
"Anything," she says without hesitation.
"I need a private security guard for Ash. A woman preferably, someone open minded about this entire situation."
She nods, "I know just the person."
"Thank you," I say gratefully. Turning to the reception desk and the nurse I ask, "I need information on a patient."
