Over the next few days, Aisha's life transformed in ways she never imagined. After signing the contract, everything moved at a breakneck pace. Arjun's staff took care of the logistics, and before she knew it, Aisha found herself moving into his sprawling mansion. The reality of her decision hit her like a wave as she walked through the grand entrance, feeling dwarfed by the sheer scale of the place.

The mansion was a world unto itself-an opulent fortress filled with marble floors, glittering chandeliers, and priceless artwork. Everywhere she looked, there was a reminder of Arjun's wealth and power. But despite the beauty of her surroundings, Aisha couldn't shake the feeling that she was a stranger in a foreign land.

Her room was located in the east wing, far from where Arjun resided. The bed was enormous, covered in the finest silk sheets, and the view from the window overlooked a lush garden that stretched out as far as the eye could see. It was beautiful, but it wasn't home.

As Aisha unpacked, she tried to make the space her own, but it was difficult. The walls, with their muted colors and elegant decor, seemed to swallow her few belongings. A photograph of Meera, smiling brightly on her first day of school, was the only thing that felt real in this surreal new life. Aisha placed it on the nightstand, next to the bed, as a reminder of why she was here.

But as the days went by, Aisha struggled to adjust. The staff was polite but distant, and the mansion was eerily quiet, a far cry from the bustling, noisy neighborhood she had left behind. She missed the sound of Meera's laughter, the chatter of neighbors, and the comforting familiarity of her old life.

Arjun was often away, tied up with business meetings and engagements. When he was home, he remained distant, maintaining the professional boundary they had agreed upon. They shared polite conversations over dinner, but the air between them was thick with unspoken tension. Aisha couldn't tell if it was awkwardness or something else.

One evening, after yet another silent dinner, Aisha found herself wandering the mansion's halls. She ended up in the library, a massive room filled with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and cozy reading nooks. She traced her fingers along the spines of the books, trying to find something to occupy her mind, but her thoughts kept drifting to Arjun.

Why had he chosen her? Out of all the women he could have had at his side, why did he pick someone like her, a girl with no wealth or status? Aisha couldn't understand his motivations, and that uncertainty gnawed at her.

Just as she reached for a book, she heard footsteps behind her. She turned to see Arjun standing in the doorway, his expression unreadable.

"I didn't mean to startle you," he said, his voice low.

"It's alright," Aisha replied, her heart beating faster at his unexpected presence.

Arjun walked over to her, his gaze fixed on the books. "This was my mother's favorite room," he said quietly. "She loved to read. It was one of the few things we shared."

Aisha looked at him, surprised by the hint of vulnerability in his voice. It was rare for him to speak of his family, and she had never heard him mention his mother before.

"She must have been an incredible woman," Aisha said softly.

"She was," Arjun replied, a shadow passing over his face. "She had big dreams for this family, for the business. But life... it doesn't always turn out the way you expect."

Aisha nodded, understanding that all too well. "I know what you mean."

They stood in silence for a moment, the only sound the crackling of the fire in the hearth. Aisha could feel the distance between them closing, even if just a little. There was more to Arjun than the cold, calculating businessman she had met. There was pain, loss, and perhaps a longing for something more.

"Why did you agree to this?" Arjun asked suddenly, his gaze piercing. "To marry me, a stranger, just for money?"

Aisha hesitated, unsure how to answer. "I did it for Meera," she finally said. "She deserves a better life than I could ever give her on my own. I want her to have opportunities I never had. And if that means sacrificing my own happiness for a year, then so be it."

Arjun studied her, his expression softening. "You're stronger than you look, Aisha."

She shrugged, offering a small smile. "You do what you have to do."

Arjun nodded, seeming to understand. "I admire that."

For a moment, they simply looked at each other, a strange connection forming in the shared silence. But before either could say more, Arjun's phone buzzed, breaking the spell. He glanced at it and sighed.

"I have to take this," he said, stepping back. "Goodnight, Aisha."

"Goodnight," she replied, watching him leave.

As the door closed behind him, Aisha felt a pang of something she couldn't quite name. Loneliness? Regret? Or maybe just the aching desire for something real in this strange, new world she now inhabited.
