Maelani Cartier couldn't count how many times she tried to remain a mystery and how many times people have attempted—yet failed—to solve her. It definitely wasn't an easy task to discover what really laid behind her pretty face. She was a puzzle that preferred not to be solved, for that would mean allowing the forthcoming of vulnerability—something that she in fact did not desire.
Dayvon Kingston. A ridiculously handsome CEO that was practically the walking essence of attractiveness. A part of her was beginning to believe they were a little similar in some aspects, and every time he looked at her, she felt like he could see right through the cool mask that she perfectly handcrafted herself.
And that bothered her.
To many others, she was similar to the outlines of crystal stones. So beautifully carved and enchanting, the need to learn what hides inside becomes almost overwhelming.
She wasn't always like this though. There was a time where she was once an open book to anyone that cared to read along the lines of her. In fact, she could vividly recall the tales of the young girl she used to be. The wild teenager who was full of innocence and life.
Eventually, that girl dissipated into air the moment she lost the people that contributed to her happiness. She was replaced with something of a stranger, a new entity that was a big contrast to the previous girl. It was obvious in the cracks of her eyes, which held cold specks in them instead of innocent warmth.
Sitting comfortably in her chair, Maelani looked over her balcony to the familiar streets of Chicago. After the lunch date she had with Von, they left the restaurant and took their flight, landing back in Chicago three hours ago.
She lifted the end of her hookah to her plump lips, inhaling the smoke and a second later, the smoke poured out from the small parting of her lips. She tipped her head back slightly, her eyes gazing up at the gleaming stars that littered across the night sky. A wisp of smoke leaked from her mouth, forming into a distorted cloud whilst her manicured hand lazily dangled from the arm of her chair.
Maelani knew that sooner or later she'd have to let the beautiful city go.
What she didn't know though, was that Chicago wouldn't be letting go of her any time soon.
A whole two weeks came and went, and everything was going rather smoothly so far.
The process of the idea renovation was coming along great as she hoped. They participated in a few more meetings with Dayvon to make sure they met his expectations as a client. Designing hotels was definitely a lot more complicated than designing a house or an apartment since there were multiple floors that needed to be covered. Luckily, it wasn't as hard considering they were just renovating what was already built.
Throughout the past two weeks, Dayvon would pop up at least twice a week to take Maelani out to lunch. They were starting to get more comfortable with one another—not too comfortable—but just enough.
After days of him literally begging for her number, she finally gave it to him and since then, they've been texting back and forth on the days they couldn't see each other.
She also made sure to get Ari's number as well, and would even go as far to say they were becoming acquaintances. In fact, she and Solána were meeting up with Ari to have their first hangout at a club. Which led to now.
"You so damn fine, if I was a nigga I'd definitely stick my dick in you first."
Maelani snorted loudly at Solána's comment, looking at her through the camera of her phone. "Thank you, I guess?"
The two women gracefully stepped out of the parked vehicle, linking arms as they began making their way to entrance of the club. Neither of them missed the way multiple pairs of eyes gravitated toward them as they walked.
"The fuck these peons staring so hard for?" Maelani muttered with a natural mug resting on her face.
"Right. Acting like they never seen women before." Solana replied with a similar expression on her face.
What they didn't realize, was the sultry aura that the both of them carried. Especially Maelani, with her hair styled in deep ginger body waves that perfectly outlined her heart-shaped face. She wore a mini black lace dress that consisted of a plunging neckline, broadcasting the curvature of her breast while the dress clung to the rest of her curvaceous figure.
Although Maelani was very confident within her physical appearance, she never truly realized the weight of which her beauty held.
"Maelaniiii"
The sound of someone's voice calling out her name caught her attention as she and Solána turned to see Ariana waltzing over to them.
"Hey baby, you look good." Maelani smiled as they shared a quick hug.
"Me? No, Look at y'all." She remarked, gesturing between the two making them chuckle. The three women walked through the door of the entrance, instantly being met by the change of scenery in the club.
Clubs weren't really Maelani's cup of tea. She didn't particularly enjoy being in packed places, surrounded by large groups of people. Things like that made her uncomfortable, and sometimes triggered her anxiety due to the feeling of being suffocated and overstimulated. But for tonight, she decided to just let loose and enjoy herself.
"I'm finna get so fucked up tonightttt." Solána stuck her tongue out as they made their way to the bar. Maelani and Ariana laughed at the genuine excitement on her face while they made their orders.
And thus, the party began.
