The second Maelani's head hit her plush pillows, she was out like a light. She had been completely drained from all the drinking and dancing. Parts of her body ached, and she could barely keep her eyes open when Dayvon wiped her makeup off. The warmth of her bed was inviting, and as soon as her body hit it, she passed out.
She had no idea how long she had been sleeping before she had been awoken by loud ringing. A groan left her lips as she turned on her side, while her covers went tumbling to the floor in a heap. She kept her eyes shut to block out the hint of sunlight that peaked through the small crack of her curtains. Her hand stretched out, smacking the surface of her nightstand as it blindly searched for her phone. Once she finally found it, she brought it to her ear as she answered the call.
"Whoever this is better have a good reason for waking me up out of my damn sleep." She grumbled groggily into the device, her voice lower than usual.
"Well, that's certainly no way to speak to your favorite person in the whole wide world." The familiar voice of Solána spoke through the device.
Maelani rolled her eyes, "What you want, nigger?"
Solána playfully gasped. "Wow! I call to check on you after you were dragged out of the club by your man, and you show your appreciation by calling me a slur? With the hard R too?"
"He's not my man." Maelani grumbled back, ignoring everything else that was said. She raised her hand to rub her forehead as a headache started to kick in. This exactly why she doesn't drink.
Maelani could practically hear Solána roll her eyes from the other end of the phone.
"Girl whatever. Anyways, I just wanted to make sure he hadn't killed you or something. Alsoooo-"
"Oh Lord, I know that tone. What you did?" Maelani mused.
"Girllll, I didn't do nothing. At least not this time." She snickered through the phone, "I was actually calling to tell you about Muwop."
Maelani scrunched her face up in confusion, "Who the hell is Muwop?"
"You don't remember? You told him he has a weird head shape last night when we were at the club"
"Oh." She made a 'yikes' expression, "What about him?"
"Well after you and Von left, Ari and I stayed with Muwop and Taurus. Me and Muwop were kind of hitting it off and when they dropped us off to our houses, he asked me to go on a date so we could get to know each other better."
Maelani hummed, a smirk dancing on her plump lips."And you want me to tell you if you should go or not, I'm guessing."
"You know you better than me at this type of stuff, Mae. So, yes I need your input. Should I go? We just met last night, what if it's too soon? And what would I even wear? And what if he—"
"Solána, please shut up." Maelani cut off her rambling, "I think you should go. So what if y'all just met a couple of hours ago? That shit has no specific time limit, Lana. Dates are a way for you to get to know each other and decide where and what pace y'all want to go from there. And I'll help you pick out your outfit, so you don't need to worry in that department."
"Alright, fine." Solána sighed.
"Well?"
"Well what?" Solána asked over the phone, purposefully playing dumb.
"It's something else you're worried about, spit it out ion got all day." Maelani replied knowingly.
Solána rolled her eyes from the other side of the phone, hating how Maelani was able to read her so easily without even being near her.
"I still got feelings for Zion. I don't want to jump into something with Muwop, only to miss a potential chance with Zion."
Maelani sighed as she leaned back on her headboard.
"Look, you got two choices. You either swallow your pride and go tell Zion how you feel about him to see if the feeling's reciprocal. Or, you go out with Muwop and continue to wait around for Zion, which sounds very miserable if you ask me."
"It's been two years, Mae. Two. If that man felt the same way, I'm sure he would've been made that clear." Solána sighed sadly.
Maelani felt bad for the girl. She knew how much Solána liked their boss, hoping that someday he'll feel the same way and make a move. But just like she said, it's been two whole years. It doesn't take a man that damn long to decide if he wants to be with you or not. Especially not a man like Zion. That's why she never understood why Solána chose to wait on him for so long in the first place.
If a man really wants you, you won't be confused about nothing because he will make that clear.
After spending a little bit more time on the phone with Solana, Maelani finally got out of bed and decided to freshen up before getting her day started. Although her head was literally pounding, she made sure to call Ariana to check up on her as well. When she entered her spacious bathroom, she frowned in confusion at the paper that laid on her counter.
"The fuck?" She muttered as she opened it and began reading it.
Good Morning, pretty girl. I'm sure that headache is killing yo ass right now, which is exactly what you get for being grown and drinking too much. But I noticed you ain't have no pills, so I got you some Ibuprofen. It's in yo medicine cabinet along with a water bottle. I also made you some breakfast before I left last night, it's on the stove. You might have to warm that shit up though. And when you done eating and getting ready n shit, call me. We needa talk.
-Von.
She hadn't even notice the smile that slowly spread across her face. Though, it began to fade once she read the last sentence of the letter, and she started to get a little anxious.
She didn't remember everything she did or said last night, so she just hoped she hadn't done or said anything embarrassing. She felt another pang of pain run through her head, eliciting a groan from her.
"This exactly why I don't fucking drink."
