Netflix Really Needs Some Help

As some of you may know, Dead Boy Detectives is one of my favourite shows. The acting is amazing, the plot is awesome, the storytelling is just mwah, the characters are all loveable, and the villain is one of the best I've ever seen.

So, why am I bringing this up?

Because Netflix went ahead and cancelled it.

Keep in mind this show did relatively well in terms of critics and scores (92% on Rotten Tomatoes), it did better with the critics than it's mother show the Sandman did, it has a loyal fanbase, and represents lgbtq+ characters really well.

Netflix cancelling this show is continuing a trend that is frankly, going to leave them in a bad place. There are so many shows Netflix has ended for seemingly... no reason.

Deadly Class, The Society, Shadow and Bone, The Imperfects, Daybreak, Fate: The Winx Saga, Lockwood and Co, I Am Not Ok With This, Dead Boy Detectives... and these are off the top of my head!

So, why am I so pressed about this? You may be screaming at your phones saying that it's because of money... but here's the thing, these shows would have raked in so much money if they got a second season.

And it's even worse when you think that shows that people don't like are getting greenlit.

It's infuriating to know that if you start a somewhat niche show, it's highly likely netflix will go and cancel at the same time they renew the 7134 season of their shitty reality shows. It's infuriating to know that the showrunners have no say when Netflix axes their shows.

All Netflix is going to do is lose viewer loyalty if they keep cancelling shows. It's not okay, epecially reeling people along for three months.

Stranger Things is Netflix's cash cow, but that's ending soon. So, if they don't do something soon about their shows, Netflix is in trouble. They cannot keep banking off of the next blonde barbie doll on Selling Sunset or some other shit show. It's not a good business strategy, and it's going to destroy them.

The reason why I'm so pressed about the cancellation of Dead Boy Detectives is because this was the straw that broke the camel's back, and clearly, I am not the only one feeling this.

I've lost my faith in Netflix because of this. I fear that if I start a show that isn't Stranger Things or Outer Banks or One Piece or Wednesday, I won't get a conclusion for it. The shows Netflix cancels have such strong potential to do well. Just look at the petitions being created to save these shows. It's also dirty for Netflix to string fans along for three months with no news only to cancel it that quickly.

So, to whoever made the decision to cancel this show, I hope both sides of your pillows are warm, I hope your food is always slightly undercooked, I hope your day is awful. Here are some of my best memes to let you know how I feel.
