Imagine returning to Midgard after the events of Ragnarök. After witnessing the death of your best friend, you realize you want to live your life a bit differently than you had planned.

*********

Asgard was gone. You watched from the window of the ship as your home exploded into flames. As much as your brother tried to prevent it, Ragnarök happened, and you and your brothers caused it. Well, your sister that you knew nothing about was the true culprit of it, but none the less, you felt tremendous guilt for the destruction of your home. Asgard isn't a place, it's the people, your father had told you three. You glanced back behind you to see the last of the Asgardian people standing behind you, tired and worn out from the destructive rule of Hela.

"Now what?" Loki asked as he looked over to your brother.

Thor looked down at you, "(Y/N)?"

You raised an eyebrow, "Your King now, brother. I think you're the one who must make the decision."

Thor nodded, "True. And as King, I have decided to make you my top advisor. So, advise."

You rolled your eyes at Thor and looked at Loki, who wore a small smirk on his face. You sighed. "Fine. Midgard then."

You smirked as you watched the color drain from Loki's face. "Midgard? Sister, do you think it wise that I return there? I don't think they will be pleased to see me."

You smiled as you patted his cheek. "Now, now, dear brother. I'm sure if you prove yourself worthy, they may spare your life."

Thor chuckled as you walked away, Loki quickly following after you and trying to tell if you were joking with him or not.

"My King?" asked Heimdall.

Thor nodded, "You heard the princess, to Midgard."

Your heart was pounding in your chest as you watched the Avenger's compound come into view. You had been gone longer than you anticipated and was nervous to see your teammates again. Worried they thought you had abandoned them. Heimdall had sent Bruce ahead to let the others know of your arrival and what to expect. You could see the emergency vehicles that were on standby to help those who were injured, and makeshift tents were being created in a nearby field to help house the homeless Asgardians. As the ramp lowered, you and Loki followed Thor off the ship with Valkyrie close behind. You scanned the faces of your old teammates when a pair of blue eyes caught yours. You felt tears well up into your eyes as you pushed past your brother and broke out into a run across the field.

You nearly knocked Steve over when he caught you in mid jump, wrapping your legs around his waist. His arms engulfed around you as you buried your head into his neck, breathing him in as he held on tight. Steve felt his heart swell with love and relief as the realization that he had you back in his arms was real. He pulled your head back so he could take a good look at you, pushing your hair away from your face. Before you could say anything, he crashed his lips against yours. You smiled into the kiss, holding on to the back of his neck to keep him from pulling away. Hearing someone clear their throat behind you, you ignored it as you both pulled away, leaning your foreheads together.

"How are you even more beautiful than I remember?" Steve asked in a whisper.

You blushed slightly at his compliment. "I missed you," you responded.

Steve's smile grew as he kissed your nose, "Not as much as I missed you."

Someone cleared their throat again, but this time louder. Steve rolled his eyes as he gently sat you down, keeping his arm around your shoulders and pulling you close to his side, your own arm wrapped around his waist, as you both turned to the person who was interrupting your moment. Loki stood with his eyebrows raised at both of you. He pointed between the two of you.
