After some more time lying around John slowly sat up, his legs still feeling a little weak, and let out a long-suffering sigh, as the reality of the upcoming work week suddenly registered in his brain. For a moment he just sat there, thinking about the coming days, his brain slowly going from lovestruck daze into slightly more serious work mode, though even as he mentally prepared himself for the long work days ahead.
A small frown began to form between his eyebrows, as if his brain was actively trying to force all the positive, joyful feelings out, his expression shifting from that of a lovesick teenager to that of a tired, slightly overwhelmed scientist. His shoulders slumped a little, as he sat there, before he finally let out a deep, slightly weary sigh, and he slowly climbed out of his bed, closing his eyes and trying to will all other thoughts away.
John began pacing about the room, his right hand fiddling with his hair, his mind now focused on the next day at work. He tried to keep any and all thoughts of Daria as far away as possible, not wanting to dwell on them until after the work was done. He began listing all the things he had to do, as he walked up and down, mumbling the list under his breath as he slowly walked to and fro in a small circle.
He looked over to his desk witnessing the overflowing piles of papers and documents and strolled across the room, now determined to get some shit done.
The scientist sat down heavily in his old rolling chair, the creaking of the wheels and the protesting, whining sound of the chair as soon as he moved a little telling him that he really should get a new one, but he pushed the thought out of his mind, knowing that now was not the time to focus on such trivial things. He began sorting through the papers, sorting them into categories, and trying to organise them into some semblance of order.
He continued like that, for what felt like several hours, the sky getting darker and the room growing dimmer around him. Slowly, he began to make a dent in the never-ending paper mountain, the space on his desk clearing up, as he managed to actually find some of his writing equipment that had previously been buried behind a massive stack of documents. A small, tired but satisfied smile appeared on his face, and he slumped back a little into his chair.
He took off his glasses for a moment, and rubbed his temples, a slight headache beginning to form between them, as he closed his eyes and let out a long, exhausted sigh. He slowly slid the glasses back on, letting out a soft, slightly exhausted sigh, as the weariness and the dull ache beginning to make themselves known in his muscles. He stretched, a few quiet pops sounding from his joints, as he tried to release the tension built up in them, before he leaned back over the papers, continuing to sort them into neat, clean piles and categories, until after a while he slowly reached the last few documents.
John dug out an emergency energy bar from the desk drawer, in hope it would serve as a substitute for dinner.
He ripped the it open and unceremoniously stuffed the whole thing into his mouth, swallowing it almost without chewing, as he continued sorting through the papers. Once he finished the last remaining papers, he let out a long, tired sigh, the exhaustion and weariness beginning to bleed into his bones, as he leaned back in his chair again, his eyes half-lidded, and the previous headache beginning to get bad enough to be almost nauseating.
He slowly got up from his chair, his body feeling like it weighed a ton or more, as he slowly dragged himself to the bed, flopping down onto it with a heavy 'thud', before groaning quietly, and immediately burying his face into his pillow, almost whimpering as he felt just how utterly exhausted he actually was.
John's eyes closed for a moment, as he took a shaky breath, allowing his mattress to absorb some of his pain and stress. He slowly moved onto his side, curling up into a fetal position, and wrapping his tired, stiff arms around the soft pillow. He felt his body slowly begin to relax, his muscles finally unwinding and untensing.
