I woke up late. There was no hot water to shower, so I ended up hissing and shrieking every time the cold water touched my skin. My dress gave up on me. I looked frantic. It was a nightmare. I defined the word 'disaster'.
I tried to calm myself, but I couldn't. How could I? I had to be there at the venue ten minutes earlier. But here I was, still fumbling with the broken zipper of my dress.
My life was surrounded by broken zippers.
Today was Charlotte's wedding. My best friend Alexis' elder sister, the one Al often dissed and whined about. Yes, the very 'bridezilla' that Al referred to. It was her big day.
Last night, Al specifically reminded me to be there half an hour early to help her get dressed up for the occasion. But right now, it was confirmed that I was the worst friend she could have. Helping her would be highly unlikely since I was running late myself. And I for one, am always punctual.
Cursing under my breath, I gave up on the zipper and took the help of a safety pin, praying that it would hold the dress together.
Giving one last disgusted look at my reflection, I took my purse and phone, and hurried downstairs. I bolted the door and rushed to the venue. Safety rules and regulations flew out the window, similar to my knotty hair right now which was being the absolute rebel.
I knew the venue from the impressive invitation embedded with golden letters. I entered it into my phone and followed the directions. The venue was a twenty minute drive, provided there was no traffic. Traffic was the last thing I needed now.
I muttered a few curses, some loud, some quiet, along with a bunch of silent prayers to reach safely. I didn't want to be the one lying in the emergency room in need of help, all by myself, since my dad was always too busy for his own good.
"You have reached your destination." The robotic lady voice spoke after driving for about thirty minutes. I turned off the GPS on my phone and looked outside.
The location was a country club along the beach. It was famous for its grand, over- the- top weddings. It's not a surprise since Al's family came from money.
I checked myself once at the rear view mirror and quickly scurried to the scene, after glancing at a signboard that said 'Charlotte Saunters weds Elliot Mason' with an arrow, which I duly followed.
I lifted my light coral gown up to make it easier for me to run since the heels were already spelling trouble. Tripping and landing flat on my face was not a viable option.
When I finally reached the scene against all odds, I left a small gasp.
Holy mother of the entire world's gold!
The picturesque scene before me left me speechless. There was soft music playing in the background. I was hypnotized by its beauty. There were rows of chairs in the plush green grass with white silk draped over them, along with a baby pink ribbon. Between the perfectly aligned chairs was a pure white carpet leading to the dramatic, antique rotunda with white sculpted pillars. There were ivory silk curtains decorating the rotunda. Not to forget the pink and white roses, enhancing the rich silk curtains.
