Chapter 4: Blackout

Inside the palace was a bit brighter than outside, although not by much. The floors were carpeted in a thin, ash grey rug, and the black walls seemed to carry on forever in a gloomy continuum.

Lunar stared at the looming corridor in front of him nervously, one hand tightly gripping the opposite arm, and vice versa.

He took a deep breath, then walked forward.

The palace was sparsely decorated. A few armchairs here, a bookshelf there. Nothing too dramatic, just enough to feel occupied.

He kept walking. This place was almost like a maze. The main hall branched off to the left, to the right, to the left again... He just continued on forward, so as not to take a wrong turn and get lost.

It was incredibly eerie. Multiple times, he thought he saw something in the corner of his eye, but whenever he spun around, there was nobody there.

Just keep walking, he told himself repeatedly. Just keep walking. For what? Why continue forward at all? Lunar wasn't even sure. Maybe there was someone out there. Someone who could help him.

A thought struck him. What would the others think when they realized he vanished? Would they look for him? More importantly, would they find him?

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps were right upon him. WHO IS THAT!? This time, it wasn't an illusion. Lunar was about to turn around, when-
