Dear Jannah,

How is it going at Hogwarts? We're hoping Ravenclaw isn't too harsh on you. Is it much like the Horned Serpents at Ilvermorny?

We've heard about the Quadwizard Tournament and that it will be your year competing. If you're considering to join, let us know and we'll have a talk about it before we make permanent decisions. It'd be a good way to become a stereotype.

Our seasonal ball is coming closer. We know you love autumn, so make sure you can be there. Many important wizards and witches will join us that night. We have made a deal with a certain man of grace. We were hoping you'd be open to meeting his son.

Keep your cat in order and don't do anything risky!

Lots of love and regards, your parents.

Frustrated, the girl chews on her pen. The empty paper in front of her has been looking the exact same for multiple minutes.

She has to options and they're both very tempting to choose. It's either lying more in one letter than she has ever done, or writing the rudest letter she has ever written.

"So, how much longer is this brainstorming going to take? Are you writing to someone special?" Harriet raises her eyebrows from the couch.

Jannah shakes her head. "No, just considering if I should lie or tell the truth that will give them heart attacks."

"Your family?"

"Yeah."

"Definitely give them heart attacks. That's what they get for not equaling the houses."

Of course Harriet and Brenda already know her whole life story.

"Good idea," she decides. Secretly, the decision had been made in her head already. She just needed some encouragement.

Dear father and mother,

Hogwarts is chill. I've been sorted into Slytherin. I will not compete in the tournament and I will for sure not become a stereotype. Yeah, I'll make it to the ball, as long as you haven't kicked me out by then. And that son? I'm only fourteen. No arranged marriage needed.

Already chopped my cat into pieces because I'm such a bad Slytherin and got detention for the following four years.

- Jannah.

Short and bold. Awesome.

"My owl can deliver it for you," Brenda offers. A quick agreement is all it takes for her to tie the letter to the animal's leg, and then she allows it to fly out of the dorm.

"I'll definitely be kicked out of the house after this one."

"Come live with me. Space enough." Harriet shrugs.

"Hi, there." Minho interrupts their conversation by entering the common room, plopping down next to Harriet. "Just wanted to tell y'all that I will be the one competing for Slytherin and that you cannot volunteer as well."

"Good you know that you won't get chosen unless you're the only participant."

He shoots Brenda a nasty glare. "I will win this tournament for y'all. And as my friends, you will finally be able to join one of the parties here."

The two girls share a glance. "He's got a point."

"You can't join the parties?" Jannah frowns.

"Nah. We're 'too young'. Year six is the year where you get automatic invitations to your House's parties. You're special if you get invited while you're younger."

"But it's just in the common room, right? We could walk straight in."

"Possibly, but we don't want to be the weird babies sneaking into parties," Brenda explains.

"And the parties are quiet... heavy. We'd be gone."

She puts all her stuff away so she can join them across the fire, in a big chair. "Heavy in what way?"

"Many girls end up taking Amara's Remedy. Ignis and Dragon's Breath get dealt. And can't forget the drinks."

"I have no idea what all of that is."

Now all three of them share a glance.

"Damn, we've got a real Greenie," mutters Minho. "Ignis and Dragon's Breath are highly forbidden drugs. You can find them in Knockturn Alley, but it's difficult. Has this whole ritual and secret spot."

"And Amara's Remedy?"

"What do you think? It terminates pregnancies."

Her face falls. "Oh, that's... something, yes."

"Do you want to know what happened to those two in their first year?" Minho snorts, motioning at Harriet and Brenda. "They thought they'd be safe sleeping in their dorm during the party. Lots of people then decided it would be a nice place to do their dirty things. Some didn't even notice their presence."

Now her mouth falls open. "Ew."

"Yeah. We were traumatized," Brenda says, face slightly red. "So just go to the library or something during those parties."

"And every House has parties?"

"Yeah, but they don't deal Ignis and Dragon's Breath," Minho says. "Thomas invites me over to the Gryffindor parties."

"But he's also a fourth year."

"That's what happens when you're wealthy."

"My family's decently wealthy. Could I not sneak all of you into those parties?"

Even after their explanations to the dangers, it sounds like a cooler experience than anything she has ever seen in her life. The only parties she has went to are balls, with old people she doesn't know.

"Perhaps. But they don't know how wealthy you are. Thomas's father works at the school as well. Gives extra points, somehow."

"It's a weird concept. Inviting the wealthy ones to messy parties," Jannah acknowledges. "But alright. I'm more familiar with the fancy balls."

"Oh, cool. Do you get to wear those big dresses?"

"Yes, but they're uncomfortable and heavy. I'd be up to switching places with you," she groans out.

"Thomas attends them with his father, too. You've got a lot in common. And what was that whole act during DADA?"

Her nose scrunches in some kind of disgust. "I wanted to answer the question. Make a good impression on the teacher."

"Thomas is his son. All the teachers see him as 'the son'. Good luck." Minho gets up. "I'm off to Gally and Alby. See ya."

A/n: okay, I can't choose.

Do we want Thomas to be the son she has to meet, or do we want it to be another random guy, of who he gets jealous?? I feel like the first option fits better but I'm not sure :)

And on a scale from scowling to throwing each other off towers, how much will they hate each other ?

Hope you enjoyed another of the shorter 'introduction' chapters!! x Vera
