Violet stood beside Hodgins in the writing department, the Auto Memories Dolls sat around a nearby desk.

"She's going to work as an apprentice Auto Memories Doll, starting today." Hodgins announced. "Please teach her whatever you can about the job."

The black-haired woman around Hodgins' age, Cattleya, was the first to address Violet after a brief moment of silence.

"How much do you know about what Auto Memories Dolls do?"

"I know that they write letters at the request of other people. Lieutenant Hodgins- I mean, the President, told me so. I can't say that I completely understand, but I think I can perform my duties."

"It's not that easy!" A girl with short, silver hair burst out. "'Duties'? What are you even talking about!"

"Iris, that's enough. Get back to work."

With a sigh of indignation, she turned back to her typewriter.

"That reminds me, I haven't introduced the other Dolls to you yet." Cattleya's sweet tone returned. "You see, 'Doll' refers to-"

"It's an abbreviation for 'Auto Memories Doll'. I figured it out the other day.

The woman smiled, "Right again! The girl just now... her name is Iris. She's a new hire who just completed her training course.

And that's Erica." She gestured toward a shy-looking brunette with circular glasses. "She and I have both been working as Dolls for a while. This company is still pretty young, so we're all kinda like rookies here."

Cattleya's last comment earned a snort from Iris.

Ignoring her co-worker, she continued, "Violet, do you know how to use a typewriter, by any chance?"

"I've never used one before."

"Then why don't you start off by practising typing?"

Violet saluted, before sitting in front of the typewriter.

"Understood, ma'am."

Alert as always, Violet picked up a snide remark from Iris.

"How can she become a Doll like this?" she muttered.

Violet took off her gloves to allow for better movement, the silver glinting in the light as she did so.

"Are you okay?" Cattleya asked, shock mixed with empathy in her amethyst-coloured eyes.

"It’s not a problem."

"Then, why don't you try it out a bit?"

Violet started to type, slowly at first, though, once she adjusted her prothetic, she could type as fast as she could think.

After about half an hour, the woman returned, surprised at how much Violet had completed.

"That's enough for today, Violet. Your improvement is amazing!"

"What's amazing is this weapon," the blonde replied.

She had quite enjoyed using the typewriter - it would make her daily reports far easier to write with her current capabilities.

"Weapon?" Cattleya considered it for a moment, "I suppose. It’s a weapon for working girls like us to go out in to society and fight! Tomorrow I'll have you sit by a real Doll so you can see how she does her work, okay? I'm going on delivery service now. When someone makes a request, we go to their home and write for them."

"Can I take this with me?" she asked. She had to catch up on a month's worth of reports, since her previous attempts were either illegible or had gotten lost.
