As the morning light filtered through the heavy curtains, I woke up with a lingering sense of unease. The events of the previous day weighed heavily on my mind. My wedding day, which should have been filled with joy, felt like a distant dream. Instead of waking up to romantic bliss, I was confronted with the stark reality of my new life. The bed beside me was empty. Killian had left at around 3 AM, and I hadn't even noticed until I woke up alone. The memory of his rough kiss and the strong hands that held me close lingered, but what stood out more was the lipstick stain on his neck. Seeing it had been a cruel reminder of what I might have missed.
I tried to piece together why he would want me to think he was with someone else. Was it a test, or was he simply being cruel? The uncertainty and hurt gnawed at me, making my heart ache.
Determined to clear my mind, I stepped into the shower, hoping that the hot water would wash away my confusion. As the steam enveloped me, I struggled to make sense of the previous day's surreal events and Killian's strange, possessive behavior.
After my shower, I dressed in one of the beautiful outfits Killian had provided. The delicate lace dress hugged my figure, and the soft silk felt both exquisite and confining. The thorn ring on my finger was a constant, painful reminder of my situation.
As I prepared to leave the room, the door creaked open. Killian walked in, his expression unreadable. My heart raced, uncertain of what his presence meant—anger, indifference, or something else?
His gaze swept over me, lingering on the dress. "You look perfect," he said, but his tone made me uneasy.
The lipstick mark from last night was gone, but the image of it remained in my mind. I had to ask. "Were you with someone last night?" My voice quivered with insecurity.
Killian's smirk was cold and dangerous. He stepped closer, his eyes icy. "What if I was? Would it matter, Sophie?" His tone was taunting.
I swallowed hard, trying to maintain my composure. "It shouldn't matter, should it? This marriage isn't real, after all." The words felt hollow but true.
He brushed a strand of hair behind my ear, his touch both gentle and commanding. "Just remember, Sophie," he whispered, his breath warm against my skin. "Everything you do, everything you say, is mine now. Don't ever forget that."
A shiver ran down my spine. Before I could respond, Killian pulled away, his demeanor shifting back to the cold, distant man I had married.
"We have a lot to do today," he said, his tone businesslike. "Get ready, and don't keep me waiting." With that, he turned and left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
As the door clicked shut behind him, I sank onto the bed, trying to steady my breathing. The absence of Killian's presence and the marks of his infidelity were too much to process. I was in way over my head. This marriage, this man—everything was overwhelming. One thing was clear: I had to find a way to survive this nightmare. Whatever it took.
