The screaming school bell startled me from my slumber. It took me a second to remember where I was and what happened.
I was in the library, AP English, we had a free reading assignment. I was reading, Lillia had rested her head on my shoulder.... Wait....
I shook her lightly, "Lillia, Wake up the bell rang."
She groaned a little bit, slowly opening her eyes, rubbing them groggily as she lifted her head up. "Ugh.... What time is it?"
"Time for Homeroom, we have to move or we are going to be late."
Lillia groaned again as she stood up, stretching her arms over her head. Grabbing her backpack off the floor, turning back to me. "I really don't feel like going to homeroom right now. Can't we just skip?"
"As much as I would love to skip as well we can't. Especially you, since it is your second day."
Lillia sighed, "damn it. I guess we better get moving then." She gestured for me to go first.
I shouldered my bag quickly, which was quite easy as it was a messenger style bag with a single strap. "We might have to speed walk." I held Lillia's hand as we started out the library doors.
She looked at our hands confused, "why are you holding my hand?"
"The stampedes can get quite intense, it will help you to stay with me since you still don't know your way around."
Lillia raised an eyebrow, but didn't try to argue. She just shrugged and tightened her grip on my hand. "Lead the way."
Left, right, stay straight, up the stairs, left. We walked into the room just before the bell rang again. "Oh good we made it." Immediately the annoying loud voices bombarded my ears. "Ow, I forgot how loud this homeroom was." I let go of Lillia's hand, walking over to Ms. Johnson and speaking to her quietly. "I can't stay here long. It is way too loud, also can I take Lillia with me?" Her eyes opened, nodding at me, then going back to her pretend sleeping position.
I grabbed Lillia's hand again, pulling her out the door. I stopped at my locker, collecting some of my stuff for the next couple periods. "Why did we leave? Are we going to get in trouble? Also, where are you taking me?"
"That is a great question that I won't answer." I shoved my locker closed, continuing to walk until we reached a door.
She raised an eyebrow skeptically, "this isn't a closet or anything, is it?"
I lifted up the plant in the corner, grabbing a key from the bottom of it. "No, it's better," I unlocked the door, revealing more stairs. "Start going, I gotta lock it."
Lillia gave me a questioning look, but didn't argue. She started walking up the stairs. "We aren't supposed to be up here, are we?"
"Not really, but as you have seen, I am friendly with most of the teachers here. A couple of them come up here for a smoke, I just saw where they hid the key. " I followed her, unlocking the door at the top of the stairs. "Welcome to the roof."
Her eyes widened in surprise, "woah. This is.. really cool. How in the world do the teachers let you up here?"
"They don't let me, the key is available, they just turn a blind eye."
She walked over to the edge, looking down at the ground below. "That's a long way down. Are you sure it is safe for us?"
Seeing Lillia look over the edge I panicked, pulling her back quickly. "Yes I am positive, I wouldn't come up here if it wasn't. Just.... Please don't get close to the edge."
She smiled sheepishly, "oh, sorry. Is it really okay for us to be up here?"
I laughed, "technically the teachers are also not supposed to be up here. But you saw where the key was, literally hiding under a plant."
