Me, Dazai, and Kunikida were in the middle of a mission. Several days ago the Agency received reports of people vanishing without a trace from a street.(I know it sounds so similar with Montgomery Lucy's ability:3) Some people claimed thay witnessed Shadows moving in the street on full moons.

The moon hung high in the night sky casting an ethereal glow over our surroundings. We stood firm waiting for the shadows or the enemy to reveal themselves. But there was no sign of them. I start getting impatient.

"Is anything actually going to show up?"

"I'm getting bored" Dazai replied stifling a yawn that felt too casual for the tension of the moment.

"Can you guys shut your mouths for a while?" Kunikida interjected his voice low but laced with annoyance. He was trying to keep us focused.

Suddenly Dazai's playful expression vanished replaced by a serious look as he sensed something in the air. His eyes narrowed, scanning the surroundings.

"Stay back, Tsuneko!" Dazai shouted, his voice slicing through the tension like a blade. In that instant I caught a glint of metal aimed straight for me. Time seemed to slow as I realized what was about to happen. It was too late for me to move. I squeezed my eyes shut, waiting for impact.

Then, I felt something warm splash across my face. It was blood. Not mine-Dazai's.

He lunged forward throwing himself in front of me just as the weapon struck. He Gritted his teeth refused to show the pain. his focus steady as he locked eyes with me. I stood there frozen in shock.

"Dazai!" I cried reaching out to him. My heart racing with fear. His gaze met mine one last time but the world around him began to fade. I watched helplessly as he lost consciousness. and in that fleeting moment for the first time I caught a glint of emotion in his empty eyes-something that made my heart ache.

Dazai slowly opened his eyes. The world around him still covered by haze . For a moment he couldn't understand where he was, but slowly he come back to reality-he is in the infirmary of the agency. A sharp pain near his stomach reminded him of the incident that had happened earlier.

As he tried to sit up he noticed Tsuneko sleeping in the chair beside his bed. Her head rested gently on the edge of the bed, her arms wrapped around herself. She looked peaceful just like a child. strands of hair cascading over her cheeks giving her an innocent charm that seemed to draw him in.

Dazai reached out his hand gliding over her head stroking her hair softly. His fingers lingered brushing aside the messy strands that obscured her face tucking them gently behind her ear.

Tsuneko stirred, slowly lifting her head. As her eyes met Dazai's a sound escaped her lips-a delightful mixture of happiness and surprise. She almost launched herself into his arms.

"You're awake!" Tsuneko exclaimed. her voice filled with happiness. Dazai couldn't help but return her happiness with a soft smile. He don't know why but her happiness made him happy too. He could easily spend the entire day lost in the warmth of her beaming face.

Tsuneko's expression shifted suddenly taking on a more serious tone. She crossed her arms trying to pretend angry. "What the hell do you think you were trying to do? Why did you injure yourself like that?"

Dazai sighed. "If I didn't do that, you would have ended up injured instead."

"Yosano-sensei can heal me with her ability Dazai but She can't heal you." She sat beside him her hand gently touching his cheek. "You should be more careful about yourself." Her thumb caressed his skin softly.

Dazai remained silent. Just a few weeks ago he had thought of commiting suicide with her. And now he found himself wanting her to live more than anything else-even if it meant sacrificing himself. He hates pain but it would be more painful for him to lost her.

He didn't voice these thoughts but a part of him whispered, "How can I let my belladonna die?" The concern and affection in his words were genuine. They were not flirtatious.

Tsuneko felt her cheeks flush slightly. Dazai's face seemed a bit red too, but she couldn't tell if it's because of the sunset spilling through the window or if he was embarrassed while saying it too. They sat in silence for a moment gazing at each other. The silence wasn't awkward. it was comforting as if their unspoken feelings needed no words to be understood.

A/N: I didn't want them to say something like "i love you"/"i love you too" like shoujo manga, ┐('ー`)┌ .so you guys can think of it as an indirect confession (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)❤️.
