When you find out that the world is about to end, what story comes to mind?
When I was still a toddler, my Grandpa used to read me this poorly-drawn picture book. It's called 'To The Moon'. It's about a knight who goes on an adventure to reach his goal. With his beloved book and trusty sword, he overcomes many difficulties and helped many people. Finally, he reach his goal of going to the moon. Now that I think about it, the book looked really lame. Afterall, it's just a few pages of paper sewn together with a bright green yarn, but I really love the story.
I remember sitting in bed, giggling while Grandpa tells me his story. Then, after he was done, he would tell me about his life in the past. He would tell me about an organisation of swordsmen, formed to fight evil monsters with their magic swords, while he repaired those swords as a blacksmith. One would think that I would forget about those once I grew up, but I don't. In fact, I have no choice but to believe in him.
'Should I make curry? Or beef stew' As I take a bite of my rice ball, I scroll through my phone. 'Oh wait, I marinated some pork this morning...'
It's a good day today. The sun is shining warmly while the wind is blowing softly. There a lot of people in the park, playing, walking, working, or just relaxing. I smile softly. I feel great, but I know that this feeling won't last long. Just another two weeks. In two weeks, everything will be different. That means that I need to savour this moment right now.
'Excuse me, Little Lady.'
A shadow was casted on me. Instinctively, I look up. In front of me, a strangely-dressed woman is standing. Everything about her....feels a little out of place. It's mainly her coat. Her matching black coat and pants looks like some kind of foreign marching band costume. She looks like she's in her early thirty and yet, her beauty still shines. Her long straight hair and piercing eyes specifically, are really beautiful.
'Y-yes?' I squeaked.
'I'm sorry for disturbing you but, may I ask for a little help?'
'Uh....' Honestly, I feel a bit skeptic about helping her. '...sure.' I wish I could slap myself right then and there.
'Oh that's just lovely!' She beams. 'I'm actually looking for something.'
'Ok..,' I beckon her to continue.
'Do you know where the Forgotten Wonder Book is?'
Forgotten Wonder Book. The name makes my stomach drops. Suddenly, my heart is beating faster. Despite that, I can't seem to move. No, I don't dare to move. I feel hot. My forehead and palms are getting sweaty. I need to say something. Any more delay and she might get suspicious, but, as if my throat is being clogged by a lump, I can't seem to get any words out.
'The...what?'
'The Forgotten Wonder Book.' She state so matter-of-factly, like it's supposed to be some common knowledge.
'A book?' Feeling calmer after taking a deep breath, I answer her without a hitch. 'The bookstore might have it then. There's a book store over-....'
'Little Lady,' she cuts me off. 'You have it, don't you?'
'I'm sorry, but I don't think I have such a book.'
'I see.....' She turns around.
Thinking that she's leaving, I decide to just pack up and go home. However, the lady has a different plan. As she turns herself back tome, she whips out an umbrella. With the pointy tip aimed towards me, she thrusted forward. Without no time to think, I quickly slide myself to the left. I made it in time. The umbrella hit the wooden bench, leaving a black mark on it.
