After the wedding, the new family moved to Springfall. Their house was located at the rich side of the town. Richard and Alice drove in front in Alice’s car followed by the children with Ryder driving Richard’s car and then the moving truck.
Ryan, Alex and Alexis gasped as they drove into their new house. They all stood and admired the building from outside. Richard and Alice had gone before to prepare the place for living. They had moved all the furniture and left all the basic things till that day.
“I want the best room” Alexis said and dashed into the house her brothers hot on her trail. Ryder walked in without saying anything leaving Richard to stare after him in longing.
“Hell come around soon” Alice assured hugging Richard lightly.
Alexis did get the best room. Her room was big and ensuite like the other rooms. The special thing about her room was that it had a balcony that overlooked the street. One window in her room showed the next house and it had a window seat.
“I love my room” she squealed falling on her bed in giggles.
“Whoa. Your room is awesome. It’s going to look even better after decorating it.” Ryan said.
“Alice said we’ll go shopping tomorrow to get things to decorate our room with. What color theme are you going for?” Ryan asked.“Pink” he replied immediately.
“What do you take me for? My room theme will be purple and white” Alexis said with a dreamy smile.
Ryan scoffed. “Pink, Purple, same thing” he said
“What about you?” Alexis asked. Ryan shrugged.“Maybe green” he shrugged and walked out.
The house was a large one. The twenty houses on the street were the same with ten on either side facing the road that separated them. It was an eight-bedroom duplex that could as well be called a mansion. It had a large living room as well as a large dining room. The stairs that led upstairs were spiral. There was a mini living room with a door at opposite sides of the room. Each door led to a hallway with four rooms each. To the left was where the children had their room and to the right was the master bedroom and two extra rooms, one which was converted to a study.
Alex’s room was first on the left with Alexis’ beside his. Ryan’s room was opposite Alex’s with Ryder’s room beside his. Ryder’s room was opposite Alexis’ room.
It’s been a week since they moved to their new house. Richard and Alice had arrived the previous night and decided to sleep in. Ryder had left very early in the morning before anyone woke up. He drove his bike down the street and around the neighborhood. He came across a small stream with a bridge over it. He parked his bike and watched the sun rise. Ryder then decided to have breakfast in a restaurant he had passed by earlier. He sat by the window enjoying the scenery. His thoughts kept swirling around his new family.
He didn’t want to have another family and he definitely didn’t want a step mother. He couldn’t bear the thought of someone else in his mother’s place. He didn’t know his dad had gotten over his mom so soon.
After a while someone sat in the seat opposite him and Ryder inwardly groaned. He looked up and glared at the intruder.
“What do you want?” he asked the intruder harshly.
“I want to spend time with my brother is that a crime?” Alexis said making Ryder frown.
Ryder ignored her, paid for his food and left with Alexis hot on his trail. No matter how fast Ryder walked Alexis managed to stay beside him and he gave up on ignoring her.
“Do you really hate your dad?” Alexis asked and Ryder shrugged.
“I need a definite answer” Alexis said.
“Stop bugging me” Ryder replied.
“You’re hurting your dad” Alexis stated
“Mind your business and stop butting into my family matters” Ryder said harshly.
“But I’m your sister now so I’m family” Alexis said quietly.
“Step sister” he pointed out.
“The only family I have is mom, Ryan and dad” Ryder said.
Ryder’s statement hurt Alexis and it showed on her face. Ryder ignored her, got on his bike and drove off leaving Alexis to walk home sadly.
