At dinner, everyone was seated and there was an awkward silence at the table. Since Alexis was avoiding everyone, she didn’t join them for dinner. Ryder only joined them for dinner sometimes.

However, because they were both at the table, it was awkward. Ryder couldn’t help but steal glances at Alexis and this didn’t go unnoticed by everyone except Alexis who didn’t raise her head from her food.

After some minutes of eating in awkward silence, Alexis dropped her cutlery and sighed. Everyone looked at her wondering what was up.

“I want to apologize to everyone whom I have hurt. I’m sorry for allowing my jealousy cloud my sense of reasoning and blowing up on everyone. I didn’t mean any of the words I said. Ry, I’m really sorry for hurting you.” Alexis apologized.

Ryder was the most affected by Alexis’ outburst and they all looked at him.

“Apology accepted” Ryder said earning smiles from everyone.
“And you can spend as much time as you want with mom. I’m okay with that” Alexis said and the table became lively.

It’s been a long time and everything was going on fine. Ryan had somehow convinced Fred to sit with them during lunch. Ryan got to know that the reason why Fred avoided the cafeteria was because he got bullied in the cafeteria.

“Fred” Alexis exclaimed as soon as she saw him approach the table the first time. Fred was still uneasy about going to the cafeteria and visibly shrunk into Ryan.

“You guys know each other?” Ryan asked surprised.
“He lives right next to us. His room is opposite mine” Alexis said. Fred looked away as soon as Alexis said that. It wasn’t long after that when some boys came to bully Fred. Ryder was quick to put them in their place.

“If you live next to us why don’t you want to come over to my place?” Ryan asked lowly. “I can’t” Fred replied.

Later in the day, Alexis was on her way to class when she was cornered and pulled away by some girls.

“Let me go” Alexis said as she struggled in their grip. They went towards a stirs that was hardly used before they released her.

“I noticed that you’ve been getting close to Ryder. Stay away from him, he’s mine” One of the girls said.

“You have absolutely no right to dictate who I hang out with” Alexis said getting angry. The girl pushed Alexis very hard to the wall making her hit her head and right shoulder.

Alexis couldn’t help the whimper that escaped her lips. The girl pulled her hair tightly and tears appeared in the corner of Alexis eyes.

“Listen very clearly to me. Stay away from Ryder” The girl spat.
“What the fuck is going on?” They heard and they all turned towards the voice. Realizing who the person was, the girl released Alexis’ hair. Alexis crouched down feeling dizzy.

“It’s not what it looks like” a girl made a poor attempt at salvaging the situation.

“It is exactly what it looks like” the voice said in anger.
“Ryder, we were just playing” the girl said moving closer to him. Ryder pushed her away and moved towards Alexis who was on the verge of passing out.

“I don’t feel good” Alexis said as Ryder pulled her up from the ground and she passed out as soon as she was standing straight. Ryder recognized the girls and decided to deal with them later while prioritizing Alexis’. He quickly took her to the nurse’s office.

“Why didn’t you tell us you were being bullied?” Ryan asked Alexis softly. They were all seated with Alice in the living room. Ryder had called her in school but the nurse had assured them that it was a minor effect of having her hair pulled tightly for a long time and so she went home with her brothers.

“I just didn’t want to worry about to worry anyone. And I didn’t want you to think I was pathetic for being bullied” Alexis said lowly.

“Are you being serious right now? Things like this are what you shouldn’t hide from your family.” Ryder said a bit harshly.

“I’m sorry” she apologized and her mom hugged her.
Alex who was silent the whole time walked away leaving his sister to stare after him guiltily.

“You didn’t tell Alex, did you?” Alex whispered to Alexis. Alexis shook her head and Alice sighed.
“You tell each other everything” Alice said.

“You should rest” Ryder said. Alexis nodded and stood up to go upstairs. Instead of going to her room, she went to Alex’s room.
“Alex” she called softly. There was a soft whimper from the lump under the covers. Alexis really felt bad at that moment and she sat on the bed beside him.

“I’m sorry” she apologized. Alex sat up and pulled the covers away.

“You’re sorry? Why are you sorry?”  Alex asked angrily.

“You’ve been keeping a lot of things from me. We tell each other everything. There are no secrets between us. But you hide your feelings from me, you hide your friends from me. I didn’t even know you knew someone by the name Fred. And now you didn’t tell me you were being bullied. Since when did we keep things from each other Alexis” Alex said in tears.

“I’m so mad at myself for not noticing that you were being bullied” Alex said and finally broke down. Alexis was feeling even more guilty as she hugged her brother. She hadn’t intended to keep anything from him.

“I’m so sorry Alex. I’m so sorry.” She apologized repeatedly until Alex stopped crying.

“I promise not to hide anything from you again. I don’t want us to drift apart and become strangers to each other” Alex said. Alex gave her a look.

“I mean it. And this time, I’m going to make sure I keep my promise to you” Alexis said confidently and they hugged.
