Y/NS POV Paige and I walk through the door and we see the group already spread out in the dorm.
"Ayeeee!!" Kk sees us.
The group looks at us with a smile.
"Coach Y/n in the house!" Nika screams as I make my way to the couch. Paige sits next to Ashlynn on one of the beds.
I lay my crutches on the end of the couch and flop next to Azzi.
"Coach Y/n didn't hold back on practice" Aubrey says.
"Bro we've done worse" I defend myself.
They all collectively say no.
"Alright alright, calm down yall but uhm..." I breathe out and try to think of the right way to tell them about the surprise. I look down and play with my drawstring on my pants.
I feel so awkward.
I'm really excited to tell them, but I'm also nervous. I have no reason to be, I know they'll be just as excited as I am, I'm horrible at this.
"What's wrong?" Azzi begins to rub my back.
Everyone whips their heads at me.
"Are you okay?" Ashlynn asks.
"Is it your knee?" "Did your counselor say something?" "Is it home?" "Is it Penelope?"
I whip my head to kk "dude"
"Oh shit-" kk gets quiet and I quickly look at Paige. She hides her smile with her hand.
I roll my eyes "kk" I slump back.
Ice looks at me weird "who's Penelope?"
"It's no one" I eye kk and she hides herself with her hoodie.
The group starts getting loud.
"Y/n got a girlllll" Aubrey jokes. "Bro-" "Okay penelopeeee" Caroline says. "Yall-" "Who's Penelope?" Ice keeps asking. "Guys-" Azzi asks "Wait the one in my stats class-?" "I'm gonna be a redshirt" I interpret.
The group looks at me and goes silent.
"Wait what?" Nika asks.
"Coach Geno offered me to stay one more year due to my injury, so I said yes" I look at all of them in silence.
"Be for real, no joke" Kk breaks the silence.
I sigh "yall are so dramatic" I look at Paige and her smile grows. She gets up and starts jumping.
"ONE MORE YEAR" Paige yells.
"COACH Y/NNNN" Nika grips my arm and pulls me into a hug.
I laugh and hug her back while she woos.
The whole group mimics each other's actions and raises excitement while getting up and surrounding me with a group hug.
"WE GOTTA CELEBRATE WOOO" Aubrey says while jumping up and down.
I smile with a sense of relief that everything came true. I'm able to complete my college journey with the people I love and they're just as excited as I am.
"The leg guys, the leg" I say through my giggles.
"Oh shit my b" Ice says and they all back up.
Paige sits on the arm of the couch and bends down to my ear "more time for us" she ruffles my hair.
In response, I lay my head on her leg and throw my left leg on Azzi. Paige begins to brush her fingers through my hair.
"You're gonna be a redshirt, you're gonna be a redshirt" Azzi sings while dancing. I smile at her while she continues to show her joy.
"Is that why Coach Geno was cheesin so hard yesterday?" Kk asks while sitting on the coffee table, facing me.
"Yupp, he was basically saying that I should do what's best for me and not to worry about his feelings but also stay or you'll hurt my feelings"
"Of course he would do that but you didn't have to do anything? Just say yes?" Ashlynn asks.
"I signed a few papers but I didn't think the offer would be you know...there for me in a way? Only because I figured since it was the end of our season, it wouldn't be as necessary as it would've been if it was at the beginning or I don't know...like last year" I explain "so yeah, I was just shocked at the opportunity, but I'm happy and excited and I know that once we start again, I'll be able to play..or at least have the ability to"
"You'll bounce back in no time" Azzi reassures me.
"I hope so, I'm worried I won't be the same" I sigh. The thought has definitely crossed my mind but I keep telling myself to take it easy and slow.
"You will, don't overthink it, you'll be the same. If not, better" Paige attempts to soothe me.
I believe her. She's gone through so much work to get where she's at and I've seen it all. I guess I have some sort of doubt because Paige is just that girl. She was meant to have a huge come back and I feel that I won't be able to accomplish such a huge thing.

Paige continues to brush through my hair and I feel relaxed due to her touch.
Kk squeals "Ahh! I just can't believe that you're not leaving! More y/n and kk time"
"Exactlyy! I'll have more time with all of yall"
"Right but like me and you" she points to the both of us.
