On Thursday afternoon that same week in our last class, I sit at the back of the room and find my mind wandering.
Simon acts like a vampire....
Damn, subconscious thoughts. That's the first time I've ever thought of that. Obviously he isn't a vampire, he couldn't be because they aren't real. But if I think about it, his behavior is a little vampiric. I can't explain why, though. Like, what good reason is there to act like a vampire?
The teacher pulls me out of my thoughts. "And that's it for today, everyone. Don't forget to read chapter 5 for homework and complete your essays before next Monday."
Students are quick to leave the classroom and Simon meets my eyes as everyone is leaving. I smile at him and he smiles back, walking towards me as I swing my bag over my shoulder. "Hey." I say.
"You free?" He asks as we're walking out of the classroom and into the hallway.
I'm actually not. I was going to study. But who the fuck cares about studying, right? "Yeah, all yours."
His smile widens and he takes my hand in his. "My place?"
I nod, but instead of saying something in approval, I very unexpectedly, stupidly, say, "I like your fangs." I bite my lip, immediately regretting it. How the fuck did I manage that? And they're not even fangs, he's human, for fuck's sake!
He looks away for a moment but looks back at me again with a slightly unsure expression on his face. "Um.. Thanks."
We reach the front door and I open it but Simon halts and lets go of my hand, looking outside at the overcast sky. He sighs, zipping up his coat further and putting on a beanie and the hood of his coat. There it is again, vampiric behavior. I almost point it out but decide not to and we walk to the bus stop in silence.
We're the only ones there and I stand close beside him, kind of wanting to just pull him against me then and there. I know I shouldn't, though, and I reluctantly resist the urge.
The bus ride isn't long, and we sit together in the back with his hand on mine in a comfortable silence. I think he must be lost in thought like me, but I don't know about what. I hope he's thinking about me...
When the bus is about to stop, he turns to look at me and smiles, interlacing our fingers. I smile back, trying to ignore the warm feeling inside that's making my heartbeat quicken. We stand up and get off the bus, and we're at his front door in less than a minute. Once we're inside, he lets out a relieved sigh and we both kick off our coats and shoes.
He calls out in Spanish, I'm assuming it's to his mom, but no one replies. He looks at me, frowning slightly. "I think my mom's still at work."
I can't stop the smirk that forms on my lips, thinking about things I probably shouldn't be. What comes out of his mouth is probably the sweetest, most wonderful sound I've ever heard. A giggle. God, it makes me melt. And now he's moving closer to me and asking me why I'm so red in the face. Oh my god...
"Just, uh.... hungry." I manage. I'm not exactly lying, I really am hungry, but...
He chuckles. "Yeah. Cause being hungry is so overwhelming. I'm sure we have something in here for you, come with me." He gestures for me to follow him and we walk to the kitchen. He pulls open a few cupboards, looking for something decent. "Uh... I suck at this kind of thing... What do you want to eat?"
"Uh... Food?"
He turns to me, smirking. "Oh, that's disappointing, I was going to feed you cardboard."
I snort and he throws me a waffle. He's already making his way out of the kitchen and gestures for me to follow. I walk after him while I eat the waffle and he leads me to the living room. We sit beside each other on the couch and I have to resist the urge to put my arm around him, obsessing over my waffle instead. I'm finished eating it faster than expected.
"So..." Simon begins. "What do you want to do?"
Oh, no way I'm going to tell him what I actually want to do. "We can just talk for a bit, I guess... Just hang out..."
He smiles and nods. "I like talking..."
We end up talking for hours, I don't know how long. He's just so easy to talk to. I'm at ease with him, I can laugh with him like I've never been able to with anyone else. I do eventually end up putting my arm around him with a positive reaction from him. It's only now that I let myself pull him a little closer to me. His thigh presses against mine and he smiles at me.
"Hey." He says in a soft, sweet voice. It makes me melt.
"Hi."
He puts one hand around me and I can't help but glance at his lips, my heart hammering. I know he's thinking the same thing as he moves a little closer to me. I'm taken by surprise when he climbs into my lap and puts his arms around my shoulders. I'm blushing like crazy and I can hear my own heart pounding, completely overwhelmed. I'm taken aback by the passion with which Simon kisses me, my mind spinning as his tongue invades my mouth. His hands twist in my hair, holding me in place as he kisses me, leaving me breathless. I pull him even closer, my arms enveloping him and pulling him tight against me. I feel a rush of desire and excitement, unlike anything I've ever felt before.
I'm losing myself entirely in the kiss, allowing the sensations to overpower me. I'm not even thinking straight at this point and I squeeze his waist, he responds by deepening the kiss. I could do this all night, or...
At the sound of the front door opening we pull apart quickly and he scrambles to get off my lap and sit beside me again. I can't stop the embarrassed blush that rises to my cheeks as I turn to look who interrupted our... moment...
It's Simon's mom and she's carrying an unmarked cardboard box in her arms. She's looking at us with an unreadable expression. If she saw us kissing she decides to ignore it and instead she gives me a nod of the head and says something in Spanish to Simon. He looks slightly embarrassed and doesn't respond.
She leaves the room and walks to the kitchen, and I immediately turn to Simon and speak in a whisper. "Do you think she saw?"
He shakes his head. "I hope not. If she did, she would've said something."
It's enough to calm me down a tiny bit. "Oh, like how she's glad you're making friends?"
He giggles again and I have to resist the urge to completely devour him. "Right, friends..."
I bite my lip, unsure what to do now that his mom is home. I glance outside, the sun is already setting. "I think I have to go, it's getting kind of late."
Simon nods and stands up, holding out his hand for me. "Probably a good idea..."
I take his hand and we walk to the hallway. He smiles, watching me put on my shoes and coat, and he turns to grab something. "What are you doing?" I ask.
He turns back to face me with his beanie in hand and a wide grin on his face. He puts the beanie on me and we both laugh. He grins at me, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "There," he says. "Now you look even cuter."
The compliment makes my heart flutter but I play it cool and open the door. "I'll see you tomorrow."
He glances briefly in the direction of the kitchen and then gives me a quick kiss. "Bye."
"Bye..." And I step out the door, blushing like crazy.
