The bus rumbled to a stop, its tires crunching over gravel as it rolled up the winding mountain road. Brooke peered out the window and gasped softly at the sight before her. Nestled in the rolling hills of the forest was an enormous, picturesque cabin, its wooden beams gleaming in the midday sun. Surrounding it were tall pine trees that seemed to stretch endlessly into the sky, their branches swaying gently in the crisp mountain air. The scene looked like something out of a postcard—peaceful, idyllic, and absolutely perfect for the retreat.
The air buzzed with excitement as the team began to stir, eager to get off the bus and start the weekend. Brooke felt a slight flutter in her chest as she thought about what was to come. With a soft giggle, she glanced over at Savannah, who raised an eyebrow and smirked knowingly. The Truly Lemonades had certainly done their job—Brooke was already feeling a little tipsy, the warmth of the alcohol giving her a carefree confidence that she wasn't about to waste.
As the bus doors swung open, the team slowly filed out, taking in the stunning view of the cabin and the surrounding landscape. The sun was bright, casting long shadows over the gravel driveway, and the mountain air was cool and fresh, a stark contrast to the stifling warmth of the bus. Brooke hopped down the steps, her eyes scanning the group for Dominic. The moment she spotted him, her heart skipped a beat, a mischievous smile tugging at her lips.
Suddenly, a loud voice cut through the chatter. "Alright, everyone, listen up!" It was Easton, the team captain, his booming voice commanding attention as he stood in front of the group. The same guy who had made the announcement about the drinks earlier, Easton was all swagger and confidence, his arms crossed over his broad chest. "Before we get too comfortable, I want everyone to find a partner," he announced, a grin spreading across his face. "I'm not telling you what the challenge is yet, but trust me—you'll want to pick someone you trust."
The team exchanged glances, murmurs of curiosity passing between them. Without missing a beat, Brooke made her way directly to Dominic. She sidled up to him with a playful smile, the light buzz of the alcohol still making her feel bold. She pressed herself against his side, her head resting softly against his chest as she looked up at him through her lashes. "Looks like we're partners," she said, her voice sweet and teasing, her words lingering with just the right amount of innocence.
Dominic blinked in surprise, clearly caught off guard by how quickly Brooke had claimed him as her partner. His arm instinctively wrapped around her waist, pulling her a little closer as he looked down at her, still trying to maintain his usual cool demeanor. "Yeah, I guess so," he muttered, his voice faltering slightly as her warmth pressed against him. He glanced around at the other guys, his heart racing, but all he could focus on was the feel of Brooke leaning into him, the soft scent of her perfume filling his senses.
Brooke grinned, letting out a contented sigh as she snuggled a little closer, her head nestled against his chest. "I think we're gonna make a great team, Dom," she whispered, her fingers lightly brushing against his arm.
Easton stood in front of the group, his grin widening as the murmurs of curiosity grew louder. He seemed to relish the anticipation, letting the suspense linger for just a moment longer before finally revealing the challenge. "Alright, here's the deal," he said, his voice booming. "First one to chug two drinks wins. Loser's gotta jump in the lake!"
A chorus of laughter and playful groans rose up from the team, with everyone casting quick glances at the shimmering lake nearby. Brooke's eyes lit up, a mischievous giggle slipping from her lips. She glanced up at Dominic, her head still resting against his chest. His arm was wrapped around her, steady and warm, but there was a hint of playful challenge in his eyes as he looked down at her.
"Guess we're not a team," Brooke said, pouting slightly, but there was a teasing lightness behind her eyes.
"Maybe not. But I'm excited to beat you at something." Dominic teased, his voice low and amused.
