6 - Birthday surprises

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Julia... Happy birthday to you!" Waking up for school is annoying. So annoying. I pulled my hand out from under blanket, into the in cold air of my bedroom. I reached for my alarm and slapped it hard, probably breaking it. But then I realized, my alarm plays radio songs when it goes off - not birthday songs.

I slowly opened my right eye seeing my mom and little brother standing next to my bed, a big smile on their faces. Then I remembered, it was my birthday. This wasn't just another horrible morning, this was good day, and I was going to have fun.

I sat up and gave my mom a big kiss and my little brother a big hug. "Thanks. I love you guys."

The smell of fresh pancakes filled my nose when I walked down the stairs. "Julia, we got pancakes!" Dylan, my little brother, said, jumping up and down. His excitement over such a small thing was just so cute. "I can tell." I said, while picking him up from the ground and placing him on a chair. He's five, and of course he can do things by himself, but I just like to pretend that he's still as little as he used to be.

I sat down at the table next to Dylan and put a pancake on my plate. "It's time for a Party Pancake!" I said to Dylan. Party Pancaked are pancakes with a lot of stuff on it. It doesn't matter what you put on it, as long as it's a lot and party-ish.

He stood up from his chair and ran to the cupboard while singing a just made up song about Party Pancakes. I started beatboxing and he did a rapping part.

"P- P- P- Party Pancakes, so yummy, so yummy! But when I eat too many, I get pain in my tummy! My mommy says 'only at parties!' So thats why I put on them, smarties!"

He made those weird moves rappers sometimes do and we both ended up laughing extremely hard, making me almost fall off of my chair. I love Dyl so much. We never fight because he's still so young, we'd have nothing to fight about. Plus, he would probably start crying immediately.

We spread Nutella all over our pancakes, with a big amount of ice cream and whipped cream and, never forget, colored sprinkles to top it off. I know it's not the healthiest breakfast, but hey, we have something to celebrate!

-

As soon as I walked trough the classroom door, someone jumped at me and pulled me in an enormous hug. "JULIAAA HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" I was so surprised by the sudden attack that we both fell onto the floor.

"Charlotte, oh my god! You scared me!" I laughed, not caring that everyone was giving us weird looks. She stood up and she held out her hand to help me up. "Thanks."

"No problem, birthday girl." She winked at me. "Hey, let's do something special during break. Maybe we can go to that new lunchroom? My treat." She asked and I nodded. "Yaaass."

-

After three hours of listening to terribly boring lessons and a lot of birthday wishes from strangers in the hallway, it was finally time for lunch. Charlotte and I walked to 'Break', that new lunchroom. We sat down at a table and I looked at the menu.

"Char, this place is super expensive!" I whispered to her, so that the staff wouldn't hear me. "No, it's alright, I said it's on me. Besides, I picked this place out myself, don't worry." She said and smiled. I swear, this pink-haired girl was a keeper.

"I got you a present." She said after swallowing a large bite of her cheeseburger. The food was really good and we had been sitting in silence enjoying it. It wasn't an awkward silence, we never had those.

She pulled a small envelope out of her bag and handed it to me. She watched me with big eyes and a grin on her face as I opened it.

"Staring is rude, you know." I said and I smirked while trying to open the envelope with my short bitten nails. Yes, I bite my nails when I'm nervous. It's weird, I know.

A letter with Winnie the Pooh stickers on it and another envelope was all that was in it. I unfolded the letter and read out loud:

'Dear Julia,
I have known you for three years now and I must say that you're a freaking idiot. That's because 1. You're clumsy af and 2. You make me listen to a stupid band and try to murder my ears a lot. Now that I have finally accepted my death and I swear, I'm only doing this for you, open the other envelope.'

This made me really curious. What does she mean? I opened the other envelope and looked up to her in shock.

"You didn't." I said, feeling my eyes getting watery. In my hands were two tickets to 5 Seconds of Summer Rock Out With Your Socks Out Amsterdam.

"I did." She grinned. "And I had to sit and wait three hours in front of my computer to get them. I'm sorry they're not closer to the stage." I didn't say anything; I just stood up from my chair and pulled her into the biggest hug. I was crying at this moment. I really have the best friend ever.

-

I heard voices from inside; my mom and some guy were talking. I was standing in front of the frontdoor, curious which manvoice was talking to my mom.

"Hurry, she can be here any moment!" Was the last thing I could hear my mom say before I decided to walk in. I took off my jacket and threw my bag onto the ground. My mom came walking up to me in the hallway.

"Hey sweetie, how was your day? Do you want a cup of tea?" She asked in her sweetest voice, trying to act normal. "Sure." I said and followed her to kitchen. We sat down by the kitchen counter and talked about my day so far.

"Charlotte gave me tickets to 5sos live next year." I smilingly said while taking a small sip of my tea, which was still way too hot.

"That's great! But there's a way better present waiting for you... Do you want it now?" She said excited, and I nodded.

"Okay, stand up and close your eyes." My mom said with a mysterious grin plastered over her face. I hate surprises, but I was so curious that I did what she said. My mom softly placed her hand on my back, leading me to -probably- the living room. "Okay, now open your eyes."

A big gasp escaped my mouth. In front of me stood the most beautiful electric guitar I have ever seen. The upper part of the body was red, which blended into purple in the middle, which blended into blue on the lower part. The strings were neon pink, which was (surprisingly) really pretty. And there was a black 'x' taped on it. To be honest, the guitar looked punk rock.

I brought my hand to my mouth. I was speechless. This must have cost a lot. We're not a poor family, but this is really too much. "Mom, you didn't have t- This is way too expensive!" I said and I felt my eyes watering. It's the best gift I've ever gotten.

"I didn't say it was my gift." She said, which confused me. "Dad's?" I asked. "No, your dad is not coming till five." She said and she shook her had. "But, what? Who di-"

"Hellooooo." A low larky voice said behind me. Wait, I know that voice? I quickly turned around and to my big astonishment, I saw a familiar red haired guy. Michael fucking Clifford was sitting on my couch.
