Chapter 14 - Engagement Day

Riya's POV

I woke up next day with His face in my mind.

Beside me, Khushi was sleeping like any ordinary day. But I couldn't do it. I couldn't go back to sleep again. So I went out to see everyone was busy doing their works.

Papa was making calls to my Aunt Rina's house, to convey her the happy news. Grandma was sitting beside him cutting vegetables for the today's dinner.

Aunt Rina is my paternal Aunt. She has 2 kids. One of them is married.

My Uncles are sitting on my dad's other side, helping dad call our other close relatives. And their wives were in the kitchen helping mom in the preparations for tonight.

The first one to notice me was my second Uncle i.e Uncle Gopal.

"Riya!!" He said.

Everyone looked up from their work.

"Good morning everyone!!" I said happily.

"Good morning dear." They all said.

"Congratulations Riya on your engagement. God bless you with all the happiness of the world." My first uncle i.e Uncle Hiten said.

"Congratulations dear." Uncle Gopal said.

"Thank you Uncles." I replied while blushing.

"Riya, your mom was waiting for you to wake up. Go and meet her. She is in the kitchen with your other Aunts." Papa said.

"Okay papa. I'll go now." I said.

I left the room and went towards the kitchen.

As soon as I entered the kitchen, I was pulled in a joint hug by my Aunts.

"Congratulations Riya." They both said.

"Oh My God. Our Riya is about to get engaged. I'm so excited." My second Aunt i.e Aunt Maya said.

"Yeah. Me too. We have to go to shopping in the afternoon for your dress for tonight." My first Aunt i.e Aunt Avni said to Aunt Maya.

"Yes. We have to." Aunt Avni said.

"But-" I tried to say but my Aunt Maya said,"No Riya, we are going." She said while pointing to Aunt Avni and herself.

"Okay Aunt Avni and Aunt Maya." I said.

I looked at my mom who has a smile on her face.

"Do as they tell you to do dear. It will be best for you." Mom said.

"Okay." With that I left kitchen and went to freshen up. I wore my home clothes for now.

When I went out, everyone was gathered around grandma. I moved towards them and saw that she was showing them a ring.

"This ring belonged to your grandfather. Before he died, he used to tell me that he will give this ring to his grand son-in-law for his engagement." Grandma said to me.

"Ohh. Grandma. I would love that too. I hope Uncle and Aunt won't have any problem with this ring." I said tearfully.

"No, they won't. I have already told Aman about this. He said that even if your grandfather is not here with us but this ring will act as his blessing for this marriage." Dad said while his voice cracked a little at end.

"Oh dad." I said while starting to cry.

"Dear, dont cry. Its a happy occasion. Its your engagement day. Dont cry. Smile once for your papa." Dad said while trying to cheer me up.
