Felix and Nikolai

A man walks down a lamplit street strumming a tune only he knows on his ukelele. He hums the tune merrily as he strides to his usual bar. His friends are all waiting there preparing for a night full of drinking and singing. As he enters the bar he hears his name.

"Felix! It's about time you showed up. We were just about to start without you!"

"Sorry fellas, it's that song that's been messing with my head again."

The group of about four men knew all too much about the song. Felix hasn't stopped talking about it since the first time he heard it in a dream 20 or so years ago. While Felix looked to be about 24 he has lived much longer than that. He's part of a sub humans with a rare genetic mutation that allows them to live three times longer than a normal human, identify another of that group, and can only be killed by another person with the same mutation. Many of the countries and empires have made it a priority to enlist these sub humans into war due to their immunity. Right now Felix only has to worry about this song.

"Felix, just because you heard someone hum it with you in a dream it doesn't instantly mean that it's a vision. Let the ukelele rest a minute and let loose."

"Yeah, I guess you're right."

The rest of the night was as expected. At one point one of the guys decided that it was too hot in there and proceeded to strip into his trousers. Felix only drank a mug of beer, but he could manage. The night was fun and Felix only had to swat away one drunk from using his ukelele as a mug.

It wasn't until an hour after midnight that they left the bar. Felix was holding one of the guys while his other good friend Charlie was holding the other two. New York in 1890 wasn't half bad, but he did miss the countryside he grew up in. As he helped the four get to their homes he felt an odd sensation compelling him to wander around a little more.

As he wandered around Central Park he decided to strum his ukelele once more. After an hour or so walking and playing he is cut off by a raccoon running into his leg. Felix shrieks and flails his leg in surprise accidentally kicking the raccoon. The raccoon drops something from its grasp and scurries away. As he got his bearings he notices the glint of what the raccoon dropped. He picks it up to discover that it was a locket, a very old one at that. He continues to inspect it when he heard an exasperated voice behind him.

"Izvinetze, have you seen a small animal run here?"

Felix turns around to see a tall man. He was around 6 foot 4 (195 cm) with wavy dark brown hair. His eyes were a light blue and his jaw was muscular with a straight nose. His voice was deep with a heavy accent. This guy was very good looking.

"Y-yeah I did see it. It dropped what it had." Felix showed the man the necklace. "Does it belong to you?" The man sighs as he put a hand on his forehead and relaxed.

"Da, it was my mother's. Little thief ate my food and stole my locket. Thank you."

Felix felt some pride in rescuing this man's locket. He hands the locket to the man. "So, I take it that you're not from around here?"

The man averts his gaze and clutches the locket a little more tightly. "Da, I have moved here after some problems in homeland."

"Hey no sweat! There's no better place than New York to look for a new start in life. If you want to I can help show you around?"

The man looks at Felix with an indiscernible gaze, then nods. Felix grins from ear to ear as he thrusts his hand towards him.

"I'm Felix Newman! How about we meet up again here tomorrow afternoon?"

The man nods again as he hesitantly reaches for Felix's hand.

"Nikolai Kuznetsov."

As they shake hands an all too familiar feeling washes over the both of them. The same feeling sub humans get when meeting another like them. Both stare at their hands with wide eyes and their heads snap up to meet each other's gaze.

"You're just like me."

A/N: First book idea done! This is one of my most recent book ideas. It basically follows these two and their relationship. Lemme know if you want more of this story!

Anywho I hope you're having a good day wherever you are and I'll catch you on the flip side.
