When Earth was beginning to sprout life. The Gods took notice. They all realized the potential Earth had for them and what they could gain from this young ecosystem. All the Gods nurtured the world for their benefits and interests. All wanted something to gain from this world.
All the Gods..... except for Lunaria, the Goddess of the Moon.
She did not look like the other Gods with their shining faces, luxurious bodies, and an ethereal presence. She had a beautiful body and a certain silver glow, but instead of a shining face, her face resembled that of the wolves that roamed the Earth.
When she first discovered the wolves of Earth she was enamored by them. They had a sense of family and loyalty to one another. They stuck with the pack and had a hierarchy that she was fascinated by. In a way, she longed for that sense of a familial bond with the other Gods.
The other Gods could care less about each other unless there was something to gain from an exchange. They tend to shut out Lunaria due to her difference in ideals and in physique. They ignored her for the most part, and put all their efforts into a species that they deemed worthy of their time and interest.
Humans.
When humans started to create civilization, Lunaria couldn't help but to watch in awe as they innovated and traded amongst each other. Like the wolves, they had a sense of kinship and loyalty. The Gods, being the self centered beings they were, broke their moralities. The loyalty and kinship was broken by the Gods so that they could compete for the Gods's favors. The humans soon grew dependent to the Gods, one in particular who declared himself the God of the Sun, Solarisis.
Lunaria, witnessing the demise of the humans and of the wolves from humans, she wanted to help them both. At least that is what she wanted her true desire to be. She did want to help them, but her siblings and other Gods all took claim to them and splitting them up amongst themselves. She truly wanted to feel kinship like the wolves and humans had; something that she could help protect and nurture while helping the creatures that showed her.
Lunaria created a species that was the best of both worlds. In modern day, they would be called werewolves. In the beginning, they were much larger than humans or wolves. They had man's physique, but the head and senses of wolves. They were the Lycans, and they were her children.
Lunaria did all she could to protect them. When Solarisis would go to sleep, Lunaria would light the sleeping world so that the Lycans could hunt for their tribes. She helped them gain knowledge, diplomacy, and wisdom. Soon, the Lycans were the closest allies to humans and the most desired diplomats for the faes and other creatures.
Solarisis finally caught on to the Lycans existence, and he was furious. He worried that the humans and the other creatures would no longer need him. He vowed to find all the Lycans and kill them himself. He rallied the other Gods and they created a species to hunt down the Lycans, the Wendigoes.
Distraught over the looming demise of her creation, Lunaria thought of a plan to hide her children. She split their souls in half to blend in. One half of the soul would be more human like, while the other half would be more wolf. The term of Yin and Yang came from a Lycan tribe in ancient China when the split happened.
The people noticed that the human side would have sharp canines, wolfish eyes, keen senses, and could howl the most haunting melody. The wolf side would be as tall as their human counterpart, they could also talk human languages, have the same endurance as a human, and were as smart as humans as well. The wolf and human sides of the soul were deeply connected to one another. While no longer part of the same being, they still shared thoughts, pain, emotion, and knowledge telepathically.
Little by little, the Lycans were hunted, but not as severe as it would have been. Lunaria constructed safe havens, little pockets of space where neither the Gods nor the wendigoes could find them. The last Lycan tribe to 'disappear' from the Earth was one in North America.
Solarisis banished Lunaria to the moon, and placed her niece Selene as the Moon Goddess in her stead. Solarisis continued to destroy any evidence of the Lycans. Anything that he couldn't destroy, he twisted. He created myths about man eating wolf creatures to instill fear into Earth's creatures. All the creatures believed it, except for the wolves. To this day they howl to the moon to honor the Goddess that loves them, and to mourn for their half brothers the Lycan.
The last sighting was from an early Aztec king. He claimed to see a large group of wolves and humans walk together towards the north. One he took notice of was a young woman holding two small babies, a wolf pup and a human baby. Both had the same sky blue eyes, and had dark brown fur and skin with white spots littering both babes. Next to the woman was a wolf the same size as her.
His tale of the group created a famous legend in Mexico, and later on, the world. His story was told from generation to generation, the only evidence of a species that Solarisis thought he had wiped off the Earth. They called them "Kalpolli akin cholo ika kuetlachtin" which roughly translates to...
The Tribe who Runs with Wolves
A/N: Oh boy I did it!
This took forever to figure out how to write it. I'm glad I took this week off.
DO NOT THINK THIS IS REAL!!!
I made this strictly for fun. It's all fiction, so no bashing on religion or mythology, because I won't care. Also I don't actually know Nahuatl, there's a website that can translate English to it.
This is set up for the real story with brothers Maska (human boy) and Ipa (wolf boy). Maska gets separated from his people when he ventures out of the haven and gets captured by poachers and taken far away. He escapes and is adopted by a family in Ottawa, but he never tells them his past. That is until............
SIKE!!! Not telling you! That's spoiling! Anyway, hope you guys are having a good time wherever you are and I'll catch you on the flip side!
Sending Warm Hugs,
Phroggo Lord
