After leaving the arena, where cheers and congratulations from his classmates echoed behind him, Ben felt mixed emotions. He moved with purpose through the corridors of the academy, the carved stone walls cold and unforgiving, until he reached a familiar corridor. His heart thudded in his chest as he spotted Isabella, her long hair cascading down her back like a dark waterfall, her posture poised but distant.

"Yo, Izzy, wait up!" Ben called out from the bottom of the stairs, his voice slightly catching in his throat.

Isabella paused, slowly turning to face him. Her expression was unreadable, her violet eyes steady and guarded. "Yes, Ben?" she replied, her tone calm, almost detached.

Ben swallowed hard, suddenly feeling the sword's weight like a leaden anchor in his hand. His fingers tightened around the hilt, the golden aura of the blade shimmering faintly in the dim light of the corridor. "I made something for you," he began, sounding casual, extending the sword toward her.

"This is the Sword of Ek Chuaj," he continued, his voice softening. "I forged it from Useless Lumber. It is based on a sword I remembered from childhood, and I thought you might use it well."

Isabella took the sword without a word, her face betraying no emotion. She examined it critically, her fingers tracing the intricate carvings along the blade. She gave it a few test swings, the air whispering as the sword cut through it. "Thanks," she said, her tone flat and distant.

Ben was a little down from her response. He had hoped—no, expected—a little more from her. A smile, perhaps, or even just a glimmer of appreciation. Instead, he found only cold indifference. He had noticed her mixed signals before, the way she would fiercely protect him one moment and withdraw into herself the next. It was starting to wear on him, scratching at his pride like an itch he couldn't scratch.

"Why do you keep yourself so closed off from me?" he exclaimed, confusion bubbling. "Haven't I proven myself strong enough?"

Isabella's gaze darkened, her eyes narrowing slightly. "The high priest once said that the wielder of the other ring would be the saving light of the demon tribe," she replied, her voice barely a whisper, her face turned away from him. "But I'm not sure of that."
