Chapter 67: Righteousness Above Family Ties

As Bei Ci opened the car door, a peaceful silence, reminiscent of a graveyard, greeted him.

Wei Zhi, engrossed in her phone, barely acknowledged the disturbance with a lazy tilt of her chin, not even offering a full glance.

Shan Chong leaned against the opposite side, fast asleep. His head rested on a dinosaur pillow originally from the back seat, his breathing slow and steady.

A slight furrow creased his brow.

He was in a deep slumber.

It's often said that alcohol is an excellent numbing agent.

Bei Ci couldn't remember the last time he'd seen Shan Chong sleep so peacefully.

Even the noise of the car door opening hadn't stirred him.

And there was no sleep-talking either.

Just quiet, uninterrupted sleep.

The car's interior, neither spacious nor cramped, held two people who, despite sitting together, maintained a noticeable distance.

They appeared as strangers, creating an odd atmosphere.

Bei Ci leaned on the car door, pondering for a moment before breaking the silence.

"Chong-ge's asleep, huh?"

Wei Zhi, still focused on her phone, responded with a simple "Mm" without looking up.

She would have jumped out of the car otherwise.

Especially after what had just happened.

Wei Zhi's mind was in chaos, absently scrolling through her phone without registering anything.

She felt as if she had ceased to exist, save for the lingering sensation on her lips where they had touched the man's.

That fleeting moment of contact had been etched into her memory with the precision of an engraving tool.

His heated breath, the muddled scent of alcohol, the crisp winter air still clinging to him, his Adam's apple bobbing...

Holy crap! Holy mama!

She had never been this close to a man before.

That was her first kiss!

...Well, if it could even be called a kiss?

Wei Zhi was beyond flustered.

She had been crying so hard earlier that her mind had gone blank.

When he brushed against her, she hadn't even processed what was happening.

By the time she came to her senses, he had already withdrawn to his original position and gently patted her head with his bandaged hand.

It was an incredibly paternal gesture.

He had also taken away the pillow she had been clutching, now damp with (possibly) snot and tears.

She hadn't resisted at all, her entire being reduced to a question mark.

Amidst the overwhelming confusion and her thundering heartbeat, she raised her hand to her lips, belatedly transforming from a question mark to an exclamation point.

When she finally reacted and turned to ask the man if he had just kissed her or merely brushed against her, she found him already asleep.

Leaving Wei Zhi to agonize alone.
