In these small hours
These littles wonders
These twist and turn of fate
By Rob Thomas
Camille had settled into Marcus's living room, a space she was beginning to know well. She was used to this environment by now, but every time she entered it, a certain curiosity came over . Today, Marcus had an idea for the baby.
- A blood test to create the genetic chart, explained Marcus, his voice calm and collected. It could help us understand the baby's likely genetic information. We need information from both of you.
Camille frowned, thinking about what this meant. Why ? Parents were human, after all, nothing supernatural in lineage, at least as far as she knew. But before she could ask, she noticed Andrew besides , visibly stifling, his expression suddenly tense.
- Hun, I'll do it,' he agreed, and she saw him struggling to keep his calm, a gleam of panic in his eyes.
- Camille stared at him in surprise. Are you afraid of needles?' she asked softly. Andrew nodded. But I'll do it,' he added quickly.
Camille couldn't help smiling. There was something touching about seeing Andrew, so often solid, afraid of a simple needle. She put her hand on his, smiling reassuringly.
- I'll distract you, don't worry, she promised gently, before turning to Marcus. I've got nothing against it, but why me? I know my parents are both human.
Marcus looked at him patiently, ready to explain what she didn't yet know.
- There can be supernatural genes, even in apparently ordinary humans,' he explained. All creatures are linked in one way or another. These genes can lie dormant for generations and come out again when they come into contact with magic or another supernatural creature.
- Oh, Camille replied, suddenly realising the extent of what she didn't know. That makes sense.
She felt a wave of relief mixed with a touch of apprehension. The idea the baby might be beyond what she had always believed intrigued as much as it worried . Camille nodded, taking a deep breath to refocus. She met Andrew's gaze, which returned a slightly tense smile.
- Are you sure you'll be all right?
- As long as you're there, I'll be fine,' he replied with a slight smile, trying to hide his apprehension. At worst, I'll faint.
- I'll help,' she reassured him as best she could. Marcus suggested the next day at the lab. Another discovery, the secret laboratory where he is working on genetics, including the cure and the connections between creatures.
Camille found a way to distract Andrew.
- Nate and Sophie proposed dinner tomorrow.
He smiled broadly. Their daughter Margaret is a witch, born by surprise despite the fact that they are both demons. Camille had already seen them in a café, both of them adorable. Their daughter was two years old and purely adorable. Before the new laws, it was dangerous for them and Marcus with De Clermont had helped.
Saturday morning
The laboratory was an impressive place, bathed in a sterile white light, with sophisticated equipment laid out on stainless steel counters. Camille felt the excitement as she entered, her eyes scanning the room, fascinated by the almost futuristic atmosphere. Every detail, from the microscopes to the analysis machines, bore witness to know-how and expertise. If she hadn't gone into practical medicine, she would have gone into research. She couldn't help but admire everything around .
