the silence

it had been 4 days since katsuki and izuku have talked. which is strange, the class was unsettlingly quiet. as if they too knew something was wrong.

everyone was aware that izuku and katsuki were close. which is why it was so strange to watch them fight. they weren't speaking, being mean to eachother or anything in the category of an actual fight. just silence. disgustingly awkward silence between the two usually talkative boys.

actually, now they think about it. no one really specified what caused the fight. no soul heard what happened behind closed doors, the words left unreached to the human ear.

izuku stand near his locker, grabbing his notebook. he closes it, a familiar face standing near him.

"kirishima-kun?"
izuku mutters, red tear stains under his puffy, green doe eyes.

"hey man.. how you doing?"
kirishima nervously placed a comforting hand on izuku's shoulder, making him smile in consideration

"im.. fine.. whats with you?"
izuku tilted his head, moving away from kirishima's touch.

"well, you and bakubr- bakugo.. haven't talked alot recently.. not too mention you both look pretty down in the dumps.."

kirishima leaned against the wall, sneaking glances behind izuku every once in a while.

"oh.. thats.. none of your business kiri.. im sorry but i need to go."

izuku shoves past kirishima, frustratingly finding the same spot under the cherry tree where he had that conversation with katsuki.

at this point, izuku wishes the reason him and katsuki were fighting was because of the incident at the river the other night. but in reality, it wasn't because of izuku ignoring him, or moving away when katsuki was holding him. but because the fact izuku refused to continue being his friend.

it wasn't because katsuki had anger problems.
it wasn't because of katsuki in general, but rather the fact that izuku had come to a gut wrenching realisation that the deep admiration for his childhood friend wasn't jealousy, friendship or anything inbetween.
but rather the fact he was deeply inlove with katsuki.

izuku couldn't ever tell katsuki that, because izuku worked incredibly hard for this steady friendship with katsuki. and he wasn't ready to watch it fail over a petty chance at romance.

which is the strange part. because if izuku didn't want his friendship to fail with katsuki, why did he end it?

well it's simple really, izuku was hurt. and he knew that spending a second longer with katsuki would cause him to fall deeper into this rabbit hole. he wouldn't ever be able to crawl out. he wouldn't be able to stop himself from falling completely for katsuki's entire being.

izuku has always worshiped the ground katsuki walked on. but izuku soon realised that he wasn't the only person who found katsuki beautiful.

izuku was nothing compared to the other people katsuki could love.

he wasn't worth his grace.

so izuku was willing to break his heart to keep katsuki's safe.

but that only broke katsuki more.

his self sabotage not only hurt him, but also the one man he wanted to protect.

and izuku never even realised it.

katsuki however, wasn't given an explanation.
just a simple, "goodbye"
and that hurt katsuki more then anything else.

izuku left again. with only a simple goodbye.
