"Yoo, Nika! Look at my new legos. I just built them yesterday." I smiled as I watched Paige show me her lego collection. "That one looks like coach."
She picked up the lego that looked like an old man. "Yea, it does. He's the guy from UP." I nodded, remembering the movie. We talked on the phone for a few more minutes before I had to go. "Yea, I got you. I'll call you later." We said our goodbyes and hung up.
I stood up from my bed, checking my outfit in the mirror once more before going downstairs. Coach had us doing a team retreat. She wanted us to get closer and just take a mental break. The playoffs weren't far away, so we had to be locked in.
Tonight we were going out to dinner. "Ooouu, there's Nika. Now we just need to find Gabby then we can go. Ever since Gabby signed back with us, the team has been so alive.
Gabby and I have gotten pretty close. I'd consider her as one of my close friends; she just gets me.
Nneka called out Gabby's name and she appeared from the downstairs bathroom. "Alright, I'm ready." The group gathered all their belongs and we headed out the door.
Coach rented us this big van, so we all pilled up in it. I was sitting in the last row with Jordan sitting beside me.
"OOOOUU, I'M SO READY TO EAT!" She yelled, rubbing her hands together. Everyone laughed at Jordan before breaking off into their own separate conversations.
"Niks, look at this." I focused my attention onto Jordan's phone, since she was showing me a video.
A guy was on the screen. He was at the salon, shaving his hair off and dying it black with brown cheetah print designs.
I shook my head in disbelief, "That's crazy,but why it lowkey kinda look good though." Jordan smiled, "I know, he pulled it off for real."
The ride to the restaurant wasn't long so that was good. I was actually starving. The only thing I had ate all day was a fruit bowl and that was at twelve pm.
I was praying that the food here was good because I could not afford a nasty meal. It wasn't the time nor place.
The van pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant. everybody exited the car one by one. We walked in, getting seated fairly quickly since we had a reservation. Jordan and I had big smiles on our faces as we were being seated.
Jordan sat on my right and Jewel was on my left. Gabby sat across from me and everyone filled in the empty seats after that.
Our waitress, whose name was Kami, came and took our drink orders. While Kami made our drinks, we scanned the menu, looking to see what we wanted. Just as everyone found what they liked, Kami and one of her co workers came back with our drinks. After they handed out our drinks, we placed in our orders.
A big growling noise caused everyone to look at Skylar. "Sorry y'all, a girl is hungry." I snickered, looking over at Jewel. She told me about the meal she wanted and how she's never tried it before or even heard of it. "So you're just free styling. You don't even know what you eating?"
She nodded, "It did say something about a side of fries, so we'll see." I shook my head, this girl here. As we all chatted, waiting for our food, I couldn't help but feel grateful for these girls. They were kinda like my second home away from home. UCONN would always be first.
As the food arrived, the conversation turned to our favorite moments of the season so far. We laughed as we recalled the pranks and jokes that we did on each other.
I smiled watching my teammates. They've made me feel so welcome and accepted. It was crazy how we were all different but bonded over one thing.
Dinner came to an end. The waitresses were paid and we all walked back to the van. "Ugh, I'm so full, I feel like Ima explode." Ezi inflated. She plopped down in her seat, closing her eyes. "Im going straight to sleep once we get back."
I hummed, agreeing with Gabby. The van started to move, making its way back to the cabins.
Everyone hopped out the car and walked inside. We said our goodbyes and goodnight before venturing off to our rooms. I was rooming with Gabby. I took my shower first then I let her do her thing. I was slipping under my covers when my phone rung.
Zaria was calling me; I answered. Z and I talked about random things and what our days were like. Gabby was getting out of the shower and I was starting to get sleepy. I told Z that I was gonna call her tomorrow and we hung up.
Gabby came out of the bathroom with her pajamas on. She got into her bed that was on the other side of the room. She grabbed the remote and turned on this random show we started watching yesterday. "I think it's called Daria."
Just to make sure I looked it up. "Yea, it is." Gabby and I watched our new show, falling asleep whenever our eyes gave up on us.
