Gabriel
After Serenity left, I had my secretary reschedule my next meeting. I had to get out of the office for some air. I also had to figure out what to do. As the CEO of Kingston Enterprises, I could hire anyone I wanted, but I had to be smart about this. Serenity Monti wasn't the only one qualified for the position. There were two others with more experience and better resumes, but her work was excellent, and I knew I needed her close to me. After all this time, I'd finally found her, and I wasn't going to let her get away.
I could probably keep her close without hiring her, but it would be much easier if she was working with me. I also wanted to make sure I wasn't hiring her just due to the impact she'd had on me. I tried to take that out of the equation and focused just on the examples of her work. They were top rate. They could definitely make up for the lapse in employment and the fact that the company she'd worked for previously wasn't as highly competitive as the other two applicants.
Fuck it. She was my choice. I wasn't hiring her for any other reason than her talent. To do so would be unfair to her and to my other employees.
I called my VP of Marketing and best friend, Lucas, to let him know I'd made a decision. I left out the part that I'd barely been able to control myself during the interview with our newest employee, and how glad I was that my desk was high enough so that when I stood to shake her hand, she couldn't see the impact she'd had on me. I hadn't had a hard on like that in forever, hell, maybe never, and she hadn't even touched me. Lucas and I were meeting later for dinner, and I'd give him all the details. In the meantime, I called HR and told them to get moving on hiring Serenity.
I prided myself on being a practical, rational, guy. I'd never had a hard time maintaining a calm, collected facade but sitting across the desk from Serenity had almost been my undoing. Her scent was intoxicating, and she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. She appeared completely unaware of the impact she had on me, but I could tell she sensed something. She played it off well, but I could sense her confusion and arousal.
I hoped I wasn't making a huge mistake bringing her in where I would have constant contact with her. I'd have to behave myself until she didn't want me to anymore. Then, all bets were off.
